I'm so sorry! Losing little ones is the worst.
I candled my duck eggs again this morning. I was right about the questionable egg - it was just a bit slower than the others and has beating heart now! It's still smaller than the others, but it looks healthy - I moved it to another place in the incubator, because it was right underneath the fan, and I'm wondering if I have a slight cool spot there.
So 4 of my 6 eggs are fine. I took the two quitters out an opened them. The one that I suspected might have frozen a little bit had begun to develop, but the yolk ruptured - it went everywhere when I opened the egg up. The other one had a blood ring in a weird place, sort of stuck to the side of the egg, even though I know these eggs have been turned correctly (I'm hand-turning my Octagon 20 'bator).
I went and bought the materials I needed for my homemade 'bator yesterday! I'm planning on having it finished by Wednesday, and then testing it with another batch of duck eggs!
