I did foam egg cartons. I cut off the bottoms and then I put cheesecloth at the bottom of the bator. Worked Great!

I have 20 babies. 3 Maran eggs I don't think are going to do anything. I candled and I just can't see a thing in there. I still have to wait on those darn bobwhites.

congrats!!! What are Bobwhites?

Day 17 here. So close, but so agonizing. Those last 3 days are the worst, waiting and waiting and waiting.

ETA: and I've been informed that Orps like to hatch late, like day 21 or 22.

And the 2 'mutts', the yellow kid still hasn't gotten his land legs yet, he'll walk a few steps and fall on his tushy, getting better though.

Well, I seem to be only gonna get these two chicks ("Bluey" and "Goldilocks", so sayeth the kids)

I will leave the other 7 in there for another day or so but have zero hope.

I don't know WHAT my problem is, this is the fourth time I've set eggs and never gotten more than about 50% hatch. I just suck at this. You'd THINK I could figure it out

Maybe my thermometer is off, or is in a hot spot -- the ones that *do* hatch, seem to hatch somewhat early. Next setting will be at the end of the first wk of April, to try to coincide with an April 30 chick order, so I will do some thermometer-testing before then and maybe try running it a little cooler. I =know= it was not a humidity problem b/c I actually weighed the stupid eggs every time I candled, and was right on target. Grrrr.

But I am glad to have two little fuzzybutts at least. And it is nice to see pix of other folks' successful hatches

See ya again in a few weeks

I got the Brinsea Spot Check thermometer (it's really accurate) and found that my other thermometer reads 2 degrees high. This means I incubated my chicks last time at 97 degrees.

Wish I would have bought it sooner!

Well, we are officially done. Out of 19eggs, we had 17 hatch. One chick didn't make it-he was the last one to hatch. So the final countdown is...5 RSL, 5 JG, and 6 SLW. This ended up being a staggered hatch. I was going to get a hovabator or LG to just hatch in, but the money is just not there right now. So, now I have 24 BLRW due to hatch on the 25th. Can't wait!

New2chooks my first hatch was Buff Orpingtons and they didn't hatch until day 22. Hang in there! I also wanted to ask...on the Brinsea spot check thermometer-can you adjust it if you need to? How do you know that the shipping doesn't affect the reading?

Good luck to all!

I am jealous! I set 8 BLRW and only 3 made it to lock down. AND those were shipped eggs. AND..... I think one of them it's even a BLRW! I am not happy about that at all.

However, I have 5 more to go in the bator today along with a few other breeds.
