I candled last night after work on day six and I have 100% alive! Seen the floaty little eye things on most (I didn't pick them up to candle just let them in the tray) and even my 19 yr old son was like OHH AWW! LOL he found it interesting. These are shipped eggs so I am more then thrilled

Me too! Me too! One of the eggs that I mentioned in my earlier post that had only veins but no embryo spot clearly had the spot this morning. Jumping around and moving like crazy. My kids were oohing and ahhhing.

Is it bad to candle them too frequently? I'm not obsessiving over temp & humidity, but I get a kick out of candling them.

And on shipped eggs. Were those the ones from JamesA that the post office damaged to package? You better thank him extra!

Peacocks would be the perfect revenge for anything. They are the most annoying creatures!!

Here's my pic, I'm now officially on Day 1. Now the wait begins.

I have to get another coop built before I can fill it up completely.

Besides, I have to have room for my thermometers. (yes, plural, I have 3 in there)

The eggs in the 2nd to last row are mine. 3 from my BR (will either be a black sex link chick or pure BR) and 3 from my EE (hopefully olive egger, but could be BR/EE depending on which cockeral is doing the job;) )

The last row are BBS Orps and the front 3 rows are silver penciled rocks.

Ahhh. Who needs a bigger coop. They are just little when they are born. They HAVE to stay in the house for like a month first.

Plently enough time to build another coop.

I upgraded my incubator & used a light bulb instead of the reptile heat mat that I was having trouble with temp spikes- and we'll see how that goes..... I also put more eggs in last night. I went from 9 to 15 since my girls layed well for me yesterday. I'm still having trouble with consistent temperatures- even with the light hooked up to a thermostat.... What's everyone's secret?

I really don't want to buy a (real) incubator at this point in my hobby- what I want is out of my price range right now anyway. It would be great if I could borrow a good incubator from someone to use a few time- but anyone who's sane out there doesn't have an empty incubator out there right now right?

I can see veins in the lighter eggs, but even with a 115 lumen LED light- couldn't see anything but light/shadow in the brown eggs..... Any suggestions- I'm having trouble finding a place that is dark enough in the house.

How's everyone else doing........day 6 right?
