If your ever up this way (I think you are outside of Austin, right? I'm about 90 miles north west of Austin) or if I decide to hit up Steak and Shake anytime soon I could be persuaded to part with a few silkie eggs

And maybe a few chicks if I have any, I've got 35 more in the bator right now

These little ones should be picked up today or tomorrow. I'm keeping the black mutt chick and possibly 1 of the silkie babies.

I am jealous! I set 8 BLRW and only 3 made it to lock down. AND those were shipped eggs. AND..... I think one of them it's even a BLRW! I am not happy about that at all.

However, I have 5 more to go in the bator today along with a few other breeds.

Just remember the BLRW come in three different color patterns. There can be a lot of variety in color. I'm collecting eggs from my BLRW right now to set at the end of the week. They have been laying about 3 weeks now and the eggs are getting larger an so far have had 100% fertility on everything I've checked.

We had our first hatch on 3/19 and now the eggs I set on March 2 are already starting to hatch a day early. I thought I was losing it when I saw a pipped egg yesterday morning. Sure enough we have 2 little fuzz butts bumping around the bator, and quite a few other pips. I was quite surprised as the first one out was a "?" egg I has set to the back thinking something was wrong.

Yah! I know. But one came out BLUE..and white...With fuzzy legs!!!!! No! That one is NOT a BLRW! Those were shipped eggs and the guy has like 5 or so other breeds. One being blue copper maran. And I got some of those from him too. But those ALL have dark tarracata colored eggs. This egg was SUPER light tan. Maybe a mutt of some sort.

Well, we had 13 chicks hatch over the weekend. All survived!

But, there are still 11 eggs in the bator, and not a single pip! We collected the eggs over a period of 4 or 5 days, so I'm not sure if that is making a difference. However, when candling the eggs it seemed like they were all developing well and moving around an such. So I'm a bit surprised that we've now had a lull in the action. If we had a few pips by now at least, I'd feel better about it.

We are running a homemade incubator with a fan, yet I noticed that most of the eggs that are still unhatched were in the area of the bator that is farther away from the heat source (yet I have thermometers in both areas and they don't show much difference in temp. Maybe it is just coincidence.

This is our first hatch, so maybe this is not that unusual?? I'm hoping that we get some pips soon. Any reassuring words? Or does it not look good for the remaining 11?
