I went to town today for a dr's appt. and of course I stopped at Atwoods. For those of you not familiar with Atwoods it's like a Tractor Supply Store or co-op or as I call it, the farm girl's Walmart.
As soon as I walk in the door I knew....they have gotten their baby poultry in. I could hear them all the way thru the store. The guinea keets were cute, but easy for me to resist with a day sleeper SO, the geese were cute but easy to resist for the same reason as the keets. The bantams were all very lively and absolutely adorable, but I have 23 chicks coming from Ideal in April. That's when I noticed the ducks, or one in particular. It seemed that no matter which tank I went to look in this one little duckling followed my every move with his lil neck stretched out as far as he/she could so he wouldn't lose sight of me. It was a case of instant love

but I walked out of there without him

I did call my SO on the phone and tell him about them. He didn't say no, but 'where are you going to keep them?' It occured to me on my way home...if I had just whined a little harder.

Oh and the mgr. of the store must think I am one of those people. I pointed out to him that the standard chicks were all huddled under their light (needing more heat) and that the ducks had too much access to water in their waterer. I did good right?

I would not have had the restraint that you did. I would have had a whole new flock, and my hubby would have been p'd off at me.

Farm girls walmart, now that's funny, and true.

Oh, go get the duck. I just can't stand that. It probably had sad little puppy dog eyes too, and you ignored it.

It gave it's best little take-me-home-and-love-me-mommy, act and you didn't fall for it. That's just so sad.

Of course all the kittens at Petsmart do that to me, and if I didn't have Osama Bin George the terrorist kitty at home, I'd be bringing them home right and left.

Go get the duck. It's probably dismally depressed you left without it..........

Poor lil web footed baby, all alone waiting for some grubby kid with big sticky hands to grab it and swing it around by it's neck as he walks to his parents car with it..............

I'm just sayin...
