I smashed the eggs!

There is blood and yellow all over the paper towel. I want to keep trying to help it, but each time I lift the lid ( only twice, I won't anymore.) the temp drops FAST!

Don't touch them. Don't move anything. Trust me. It will not help.

What about the other egg... the baby is rocking in it. Does that mean that it is trying to hatch, this early? Can a baby survive 8 more days with an OPEN air sac/membrane?

Wait, the momma already has hatched babies but these eggs have 8 more days to go? I thought they were about to hatch.
I'm sorry. There is no way an egg with 8 days left is gonna make it like that.

Accidents happen. While I have so far not managed to kill anything outright I'm sure it'll happen. I frequently have total brain explosions. I once completely forgot to buckle my daughter into her seat when she was a little baby and drove all the way without realizing, she was asleep and upside down when i got there! Boy did I feel awful about that one. I've messed up eggs from poor management, once I locked all the hens INSIDE the coop with a hedgehog because the one place I didn't look was where it was hanging out.

Forgive yourself. And you'll very likely never make that particular mistake again.

I'm sorry. There is no way an egg with 8 days left is gonna make it like that.

So, 5 of them are on the same time frame, and 4 have hatched. The one that is severely injured is one of them.. ready to hatch. The other one, mama somehow snuck into her nest. It's the one that I was saying looks like twins. I just went back to that post, and on the 21st, I said the egg was about 4-5 days...which would only make it on day 15 now. UGHHHH. I'm so sorry, I am probably making this sound so much more confusing than it needs to be.

It's okay, I understand how you're feeling right now.
If only the about-to-hatch didn't have such catastrophic damage. It might have a shot. But if blood and yolk are leaking out, that baby basically has an open wound and all of its veins are just pumping blood straight out of the egg. Blood is never ever good, and it also means the baby wasn't ready to hatch just yet, so it probably has no chance of kicking its way out of there just fine.
I honestly have no hope for the younger egg, and very little for the older one based on its injuries. I'm sorry that you're going through this.

Frankie who is sitting on them is a grey crested, and her sister Kiwi, who I am sure laid most of the eggs is a khaki Campbell. We have a large pond where the girls go during the day, and the wild mallards are the dad.

How long have the other 4 been hatched? I don't see the duck continuing to sit for that much longer on the one that's so far behind anyway. I know that doesn't make it any better. I'm so sorry. I agree with the others, you need to forgive yourself. Stuff happens. We all make mistakes and sometimes life altering mistakes but learn from it and let their short lives have a purpose. Show yourself the kindness you'd be quick to show others
