i somehow acquired 2 runaways and i have questions. please help

I thought its rather weird too she does this. But I know now that hungry cats who are not good in killing mice and songbirds either, do eat chicken food. This cat doesn’t hunt and is on a diet.

The other cat who ate chick feed was the cat that never came outside, until she escaped and didn’t know how to get back home again.
just very hungry cats i guess!

yesterday i gave the coop a good scrub. i painted it with de like you suggested and put new bedding in. they were hesitant to go in at night (they finally did) but did this ever happen with yours? it was like it was new and they were skeptical

i thought they were going to sleep here instead

No. In general they are happy with fresh hay and they are not bothered with the DE.
My chickens were annoyed once when I cleaned the coop rather late and it was getting dark. They came to see what I was doing so late (urged me to hurry). And finally choose to sleep in the tiny coop for one night bc they obviously wanted to roost/rest.

it seems like thelma doesn't mind. she wanted to go in the coop. there was one point louise went in the coop and thelma was like "oh, thank god!" and went in too, but then louise came out and thelma followed. there was a lot of going in and out 😂

after the coop was cleaned, i put up a privacy screen thing as a sun shade. i rigged it so i could slide it back and forth depending on the weather. it was very sunny yesterday. the run gets sun for only part of the day and it stays pretty cool in there, but on the rare day when it's super warm, i'd like the option to shade it.
they did not want to come in when i had the shade thing going across. as soon as i pushed it back, they came in no problem.

it's funny how some new things can be so interesting a fun for them, but other new things are scary. you never know which one it will be! 🤷🏻‍♀️

a cat walked right across the roof a little while ago and they just looked up like "whoah!" but did nothing. then the school kids behind us came outside to play ... like they do every day... and that caused ba-gawking 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mine were horrified of a cabbage I grew and put it their run for them to eat. They ate a good portion of it, made it lopsided, which caused the flimsy pot it was in to topple over. You’d have thought it was something going to attack them, the ruckus they made! Everyone then avoided that half eaten cabbage for a few days.
Funny what sets them off lol
