I swear these are the last chicks I am going to get!! I promise ;)

I started buying straight runs and hoping for some roosters because I know my coop isn't going to hold all those egg laying machines. But they are SOO cute.

1st batch of 16 - all pullets (hopefully) - feed store
2nd batch of 10 - SR - feed store
3rd batch of 11 - SR - online hatchery

Luckily, our local feed store is done with chick days, and I don't go to the out of town one as often. Just need to stay away from those online chicks....
The next addiction will happen when I get an incubator (hopefully this year) and I can have a chick fix ALL the time

25 from cackle should be all pullets
+2 packing peanuts that I want to be roos (bo and br would be really pretty roos)
+6 straight run bantams (I am sure I have some roos in there)
+6 more strait run bantams

I know I will have some roos. I currently only have one rooster that is in the coop. I know of the ones I hatched out that are now 8 weeks old, there is at least on or two roos. and they look just like the one is my avatar (that's the daddy). I think my rooster now, is not favored by all of the girls, and I know he doesn't like all of them. so he needs a "wing man" lol.

Roos are not really a problem here. I have "people" that like roos lol for dinner that is.

I know the feeling. I had only intended to own maybe four little bantams. Well I have 5 outside, two bantams in a brooder inside and I just bought 3 buffs and 3 reds which are standards. What am I gonna do with 6 standards? Uhggg and DH shoot down another coop because we just expanded the original one. Its a good thing he didnt know I almost bought two little ducks for my garden pond:rolleyes:

Went to pay off the last amount owing on the 20 chicks I ordered and came home with 22 -3 week olds and 3 day olds.
I might need a intervention. I also will need to build another coop.

I haven't finished building the last coop for the 20 original chicks. Thank goodness they are not here yet

. I want to tell you that you should buy an incubator....that way you won't have to drive to the feed store to get the chicks. You can just sit at your computer and bid on hatching eggs (the Auction section is down near the bottom of the BYC forum's Index ) and have them delivered right to your house

You can also buy a 2nd and 3rd incubator, without ever leaving the comfort of you home

(I have 14 two week olds, 1 Five day old, 8 three day olds, and 20+ hatching in the incubator right now, plus geese eggs in one bator, and 3+ dozen eggs just waiting for the ones that are hatching now to be done so they can go in.) There is no hope, there is no cure...

the bad thing is, they are getting there last shipment this week of anymore chicks. and the manager was hinting that if I wanted to get the rest that would be left. I am sure he would cut me a deal. I am in there everyweek getting feed anyways, so he knows I am good business lol. the bad thing is, it crossed my mind. I mean, where are they going to put the chicks that don't sell?? someone has to take them. lol

oh and as far as the incubator goes...we made one and hatched out 6 of our own mutt babies that are now 2 months old and in the coop. it needs some tweeking though. and I got all these different varieties so that I could hatch out other breeds than just EE X RSL. I just know that the incubator will get cranked up in the fall, I can see it now. lol

It's not the last of them......you'll get more.

I'm building my 3rd coop 8X12 and only the posts are set in concrete. And you know what? I've got the darn thing full of chickens already! I'm doomed!
