My 5yr old Barred rock I noticed had a wet looking bottom when I picked her up to look her opening is about an inch diameter hole and swollen there were also a few maggots in there it looked like. I have given her a few warm baths and put some preporation H around it. Is this really all I can do for her? I heard older hens are more prone to get this

When maggots are present, she has an open wound. They come from flies laying eggs in an open wound. You need to get the maggots out, keep soaking and cleaning her if she is to survive this. She will need to be indoors to heal, where more flies can't lay eggs. This couldhave started from being torn from being eggbound, but the problem now is the open wound.
