Yes. What does the protein level say on the tag of your package? I try to use 20% at least for growing chicks. If I need more than that I would mix in a higher protein game bird starter. But have found so much variation between the places I shop. They range from 28% down to 15% (Wally layer, don't use. 16 is minimum once they start laying). So remove the scratch and what protein do I give them?
Getting rid of the scratch will raise the nutrient levels back to where it is stated on the package. If you have all of it already mixed together, maybe you can get a new bag and use what you mixed as your treats. You can use a raiser/ grower their whole life and oyster shell on the side. Or you can switch to layer (which just has extra calcium in it and usually lower protein) after you start seeing eggs from everyone and still provide oyster shell on the side. Grit is not needed at all if they have access to any kind of dirt. So my suggestion is to NEVER mix anything with their feed and always offer stuff on the side.

I know we are all here to get and share information, but good for you for being open to solid advice!

Good luck!
