I'm new here and would love some help. We got our Indian Runner ducks back in July. I called a vet about this and I really don't think we can afford to take our duck to the vet.

She started limping about a week ago. At the time, I couldn't find an injury, but I didn't feel far up enough on her leg. I've kept her isolated in the duck house with one other duck and with easy access to food and water since I noticed her limping. I noticed a lot of swelling and hotness in her ankle joint a few days ago so I gave her some epsom salt soaks for 5-10 minutes the last few days.

I was feeling farther up her leg this morning and noticed something's seem really off with her upper leg. There's almost no muscle around the middle bone of her bad leg (in comparison to her good leg), but her ankle joint is still inflamed and hot. At the knee joint, it feels too loose and there's a small piece inside the skin that feels like a tiny bit of bone? There's no open injury and it's been a week since I think she got injured.

I saw another post with instructions on how to splint her leg, but it also mentioned doing that within a day or two - is there no hope for her leg? What can I do? If pictures are helpful, I can try to get some.

Now I'm not even sure it's broken. I was really alarmed to feel the muscles so totally different from her good leg to her bad leg along the tibia between her knee and ankle. I felt up and down her leg for a long time just now and couldn't feel bones or joints that seemed out, just the muscles being totally different and the swollen ankle.

I wrapped her bottom two leg bones as close to each other as I could with the ankle swelling and then bound that around her body without restraining movement of her other leg and put her in a smaller space to restrict her movement. Hopefully not having it just hanging as she hops around will help it heal better. She's eating and drinking fine.
