I think my hatchery SLW is actually a Hamburg!

That is a Spangled Hamburg alright(Silver Spangling), but the pullets shanks should have been a dead give a way from the start. SLW have yellow shanks. Anything with slate shanks is not a SLW
This is my first flock of chickens, and I should have realized the shank color was off, but thank you for confirming my suspicion. The birds are beautiful, but they did not look like what I was expecting from a Wyandotte! I am actually kind of excited about the fact that I unexpectedly got two of these birds for my flock. :D

Well you requested a Dual Purpose breed and instead got a full ornamental breed that wont put the weight nor the eggs you were expecting

Hamburgs lay smaller eggs, but the ones I used to have laid plenty of those eggs. (That was over 20 years ago, so I suppose things could have changed since then.)

I am mostly concerned with eggs, and from what I have read, the Hamburgs are decent egg layers. I have 5 other hens and I don't expect any shortage of eggs for our small family :) To me, this was a happy accident - just glad to know they are likely perfectly healthy birds and there is nothing wrong with them (other than not being the breed I thought I bought from TSC!).

Yep, they sure look like Silver Spangled Hamburgs to me. Do you have any pics of them as chicks?
You're lucky, they're gorgeous birds.

Yup, that's a Silver Spangled Hamburg chick. Sometimes TSC gets their chicks from MPC, maybe that's what happened?

Could be...thanks for looking and confirming :) They are such pretty birds! definitely are not 'people birds' though at all. My GLW girls are the friendliest of my flock, these two always run the other way!

No problem. Yeah, they tend to be more skittish from what I've heard. Wyandottes are super sweet birds.

So another inquiry - I will post pics later. Could my chicken that TSC said was a Jersey Giant actually be a black Australorp? I got two chicks out of the 'Jersey Giant' tub at TSC. One of them, a blue Jersey Giant, is def just that. But I have another bird, who is almost a dark blue laced black pullet who is not nearly as big as the Blue JG. I read that the JG feet should have yellow on the bottom, and Australorp's feet are whitish on the bottom. Anything else that I can look for that might help me determine which breed the darker bird might be?

Also - is it really common for TSC to give out the wrong breed? This would be 3/10 that were NOT the breed they advertised. Is it a TSC issue or the source hatchery? Thanks in advance for any feedback.....
