Hi everyone,

I currently have a half Pekin and (I believe) half aylesbury Duck named Riley Jean. I think there are signs that she may want to go broody soon in the future, but I am unsure. I have read that neither of those breeds tend to go broody, and if they do, they often only sit on the eggs a while then give up. She usually is an absolute sweetheart, but recently she has become aggressive when I approach her (especially near the nest she has made in the coop), and she has begun hiding her eggs from me. I’ve also noticed that at night she has been sitting on the eggs, but not during the day?

I’m not sure if these are normal signs of a broody duck as I have only experience broody chickens. Just in case I’ve stopped collecting her eggs 5 days ago and left her nest alone.

I’m unsure if I should leave her in the coop with my bantam chickens and my other ducks. She has been mating frequently with my drake Bobby, and they seem like two peas in a pod always together. Should I separate her? And if she is still currently mating with Bobby should I keep him with her?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Like I said, this is my first broody duck, and I want to make sure she is given the best opportunity and experience. Thanks
