Thanks for all the suggestions and advice; I am still holding out hope that he will eventually come through with some sort of payment, but I am beginning to just think of it as a "gift", ( as serendipity suggested ) to save my own sanity. I don't enjoy being angry, and it doesn't hurt anyone but myself.
What I really hate to hear is so many of you have been in such similar situations! What is wrong with some people that they repay kindness with, well, Nothing?? I could never in a million years even think of doing that to someone; friend, family or complete stranger.
But anyway, I did eventually get to cash the first two checks, once he said they would clear, so we have that in our favor.
flyingtnh, that was great advice, and I think we will do just that. Hopefully we won't have to take it as far as the courthouse, though. He stands to lose a whole lot of friends if he does scr*w us over.
My husband held a lien on the bike, so we held onto the title, but somehow our friend talked my husband into handing it over and the insurance company cut the check to him.
My husband is a very trusting soul. I never would have handled it this way, and told him from the very beginning this would happen, but atleast I think he's learned his lesson.
So I've been taking it easy on him, and trying to avoid saying "I told you so", because I know his pride must be hurt. He knows he made a big mistake.
Thanks for all the support. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
