i want double yolk eggs to incubate??????????

Double yolked eggs are a malfunction of the reproductive system of a bird. My hens run in cycles- sometimes they produce double yolkers (older birds) and sometimes they do not. In order for a hen to produce a double yolker two eggs must mature at the same time and be released by the ovary. Double yolks are not a good sign- a person wants hens that produce single yolks. As a previous post said- older hens will produce more double yolks than younger hens because their reproductive system is waning.

I imagine you could with years of selection produce a layer that produced double yolks more often than other birds. The birds would have to produce single yolks part of the time so that you could hatch and produce breeding stock. I would start by purchasing females that as older birds produced double yolks then line breed and select for females that produce double yolks at an earlier age. You will have to remember that as you work toward the double yolker- there may be reproductive problems associated with the double yolking birds. And then again I may be wrong.

I agree, I would not breed for double yolk eggs, that could cause problems like internal laying and prolapes with the hens and they would problably not lay as long. To me, it seem like when I most commly get double yolked eggs from hens that are just starting to lay. The only double yolked egg I have ever tried to set before was a turkey egg and it had two, completely formed poults in it, but both died before hatching.
