I want that nest.

Slightly different story this morning, the Rock went in first in the corner nest as usual, she laid her usual brittle/soft shell egg which I slightly broke with my finger picking it up, I cracked it in a dish which is also usual lol.

the other two didn't seem interested as they were yesterday, anyhow after a couple of hours I went to clean out the coop and the Maran was in the nest so I waited, she came out after a few minutes but no egg, so as i was cleaning the coop she came back in so I again waited.
After a few minutes she came out and again no egg, so I go back to cleaning the coop, after I had finished she went back in again, so I waited, after a while she left the coop and also left me a nice dark brown egg.

The Andalusian went in and had a look at the Maran in the nest but left, didn't seem as interested as yesterday when she was trying to squeeze in, I'll look again later she may lay she may not, she may leave it till tomorrow.

The Andalusian did go in, I checked a few minutes ago and she left a beautiful dark brown egg.
That's another thing puzzled me, when the Maran and Andalusian laid their first eggs they were a lot lighter coloured, now that are both laying dark brown eggs.

It happens with the Marans here. It takes a while for the guy in the spray booth to get the right paint mix.:)

Yep, first few eggs may be lighter...and they can also fade as the laying cycle progresses.
Dark brown coating color can be very varied.
....but I thought Andalusians laid white eggs?<scratcheshead>

On this subject I also had another thought.
I put in a nest box with 3 nests in it, before that I only had 1 nest box as only 1 was laying.
The nest box was in the corner of the coop, so when I put the 3 set in they wanted the last one which was in the corner.
You will have read the pantomime of them squeezing in as one was already in there, well the Andalusian ended up laying an egg in the one next door the middle nest.

So today the Rock went in laid her egg in the corner one, then later the Maran also laid in the corner one, but the Andalusian went in and laid in the middle one the one she laid in yesterday.
So now I'm thinking do they tend to lay where they first laid, do they claim that as their nest?

Well i'm no expert here as you know, here is a pic i posted of her earlier, I'm presuming she is an Andalusian.

I've found they can have 'favorites', even with fake eggs in all the nests.
They also tend to all lay in the same nest as the first layer of the day uses.
I could go on and on about the 'experiments' I've done with fake eggs and nests.

I'm presuming she is an Andalusian.
Coloring is similar but body type does not.
Could be some kind of mix, did you get her from the same place you got the Marans?

Yes I think he called it something else I forgot lol.

I just looked on his website but I couldn't see them listed or a picture.

Yesterday the Rock went in the middle nest, not the usual end one where she always goes, again I got a soft shell egg but I managed to save it in a dish.

The other two never bothered at all, I kept checking throughout the day and nothing, they seemed happy enough scratching about the the rest of the flock.

Update:
I opened the coop this morning and 2 eggs in the nest, one of them was warm, so one must have laid during the night or early this morning and the other not long before I opened up.
