I want to be friends with my roo!

I have a Sumatra rooster who are known for being a pain but food and just forced love (even though a lot of people disagree with that) is honestly the best way to get a chicken to like you. They will probably stay skiddish just as a personality trait but you can definitely work on that. By the way that is a beautiful roo!:love

Ill try food, that's everyone's opinion so I guess its a good method! Also, thanks! He is a pretty roo isnt he!

When you go out to the chickens bring lots of treats Meal worms, lettuce, scratch etc. I would make a trail of the treat leading to you. Try having him eat from your hands. If you really want to be friends with him, try petting him gently. Try doing this every day until he gains your trust.

You need the best chicken treats on the entire planet, superworms! Get some and toss one at a time his way, they are obviously delicious so in no time he will come to you since you're the dispenser. Totally works, i tamed a super skittish delaware hen with those suckers. They make mealworms look like garbage to chickens. :)

In addition to sitting down (more on his level) and to special treats, when he goes to roost you should be able to stroke him. Helps, but it takes a while.

Hi all!

I have two flocks, one for egg laying which has 16 hens. The other has 1 Silkie hen and 1 Silkie mix roo, they're pets, and the hen actually lays really really well! Almost every day! The hen had 6 chicks in August (btw her name is fog) but 5 of them were boys, and the girl and 3 boys died so... Its just him and her. Her other remaining son moved to the big flock a couple weeks ago and he rules the whole flock and often picks on the dominant hen! Anyway, I really wanted to know how I can tame my Silkie mix roo in the little flock. He is not aggressive at all but he is sooo skittish! I think the problem is that I didn't really hold him when he was a baby. Any methods u guys know of to make him trust me? I want to be able to pet him at least. And it would be fantastic if I could hold him! Hes a very pretty boy, half bantam Ameruacana.
I took a rubber pad and sat on the ground in the run, I put a few pieces of bread in front of me, then held some in my hand. After about a week, he would meet me at the gate. I did this every afternoon
