Thank you and what does the F mean? Does that mean generation? You could use Jersey Giants, if that's all you have at the moment.
I'm using Brahmas for the project.
First Generation Silkie crosses are solid feathered, the silkie Gene is a recessive trait that needs two copies to show. The second generation cross, or F2s should yield Silkied Offspring. This is when you take the F1 cross offspring, & breed back to silkies. You could use the father again if needed, wouldn't hurt.
Also I have noticed that the roo isn't floofy, so to make a big silkie chicken do you breed that crosbred roo with the biggest silky hen you have? Then are the babies silkies with silky feathers and large size? You could use Jersey Giants, if that's all you have at the moment.

Why so little shank feathering? Both breeds should have prolific shank featheringHere's my F1 rooster.
It's a term for First Generation.Thank you and what does the F mean? Does that mean generation?
He's First Generation cross of LF Silkie, & Light Brahma. Also I have noticed that the roo isn't floofy, so to make a big silkie chicken do you breed that crosbred roo with the biggest silky hen you have? Then are the babies silkies with silky feathers and large size?
Thank you so much. Now the question is what bred I want to breed them with. Im thinking sumatra hen, jersey giant hen or english orpington henHe's First Generation cross of LF Silkie, & Light Brahma.
I'm gonna be back crossing him to my LF Silkie hens, who I have him paired with right now. The back crossing should yield chicks with most of the Silkie traits.
I think the hens were picking them, or that was before he finished molting. He had abit more leg feathers at some point. Why so little shank feathering? Both breeds should have prolific shank feathering
Sumatras are the Same size as my LF Silkies, so that won't get you the size you want.Thank you so much. Now the question is what bred I want to breed them with. Im thinking sumatra hen, jersey giant hen or english orpington hen
Ok. I just dont know how my teeny tiny 2 silky hen will get along with the jersey giant, im afraid the JG will kill my 2 only hens. They are really small.Sumatras are the Same size as my LF Silkies, so that won't get you the size you want.
Orpingtons might be a good one, but they're more feathers then actual size.
I'd stick with Jersey Giant for now.
