I want to eat the eggs... what do i do?

And that's fine if you do that. I just want you to relax a bit, not be overly concerned that germs are going to jump in your eggs if you sit them on the counter in a bowl for a few hours. I grew up going to my grandfather's farm my entire life. You learn not to be too scared of things.

Do what makes you comfortable, it's all about enjoying your eggs. But keep in mind that the reason grocery stores refrigerate their eggs is because they've had thier protective layer removed, and are in process of rotting (this is why store eggs are runnier than fresh eggs. They're decomposing).

So the moral is: if your stomach has survived store-bought eggs, there's nothing your chickens can do to faze it with healthy bloom-protected fresh eggs that humans have enjoyed for centuries. Just keep your coop clean, and your eggs will be pristine (wow, I need to make that into a motto, it rhymes!).

The egg industry has FAR more disgusting and disease-ridden conditions than your coop, of course they have to use bleach. Society just accepts it as the norm now *shiver*.

thanx for the advice. I would never keep eggs on the counter anyway. It's something that has never been done in my family. Growing up, eggs were always from the grocery store, and they always went directly into the fridge.

I never was OCD about eggs before. I have always eaten raw cookie dough, and eat my fried eggs runny. I just wasnt sure where I never raised chickens before.

Now I don't want to buy eggs at the grocery store again. But I only have one hen and the chickies wont be ready to lay until at least September. One egg a day is NOT going to cover my needs. When I start getting enough eggs per day, then I can stop buying them at the store

So it is ok to wash a little chicken doo off the eggs with soap and put them in the frig? I am fairly new to chickens too and I want to make sure. I was them if they have doo or no doo with dawn soap.

as far as leaving them on the counter goes, while we stick them in the fridge, I wouldn't hesitate to eat eggs that have been on the counter for a while........in the old days, there were no refrigerators, and eggs were just kept on the counter anyway.

My eggs live in a tilting frame on the kitchen table until 10 or 12 days old, then they go to the fridge.... Just waiting for a broody lol

I have also just got my 1st flock and my very 1st egg today. Roughly how long will our fresh eggs last in the fridge? (I live in Brisbane Australia and the house gets very hot)
For my own consumption I'd just eat the eggs that I know are the oldest 1st but I don't want to be passing funky eggs onto family or friends because I've had to keep them for a while to collect enough.

Months....good to refrigerate if house is very hot and to eat, sell, gift in rotation of oldest first.

Congrats on your first egg!
