I love my BR girls, and my EE babies. GREAT personality. I wouldn't get another RIR though... she's just... greedy and skittish. And I wanted to say... You deserve a big ol pat on the back for brightening up an elderly man's day/life. I'm sure he will be very happy to have this gift.

I think your doing a great service. As for the breeds your sounding spot on. Colorful too!!! Might I suggest a little longer than a few weeks.It might be more than he can handle if they are real young. I'm doing 5 BR"s for a little girl that lost 9 to raccoons. Her first flock. She has 3 left and they just started laying again. Mine are now 6 weeks, I'll go over to check out her coop after some adjustments just to be safe.
I think this man has found a great friend in you. This could be the thing that truly gives him joy.
