I want to hatch more eggs...what's wrong with me?

i picked up a trio of silver grey dorkings 2 weeks ago. got my 2nd egg just now. 8) hoping they both start laying consistently so i can fill the 'bator in the next week or so.

i actually had a craigslist ad flagged for the word dorking. LOL another ad flagged for "plucker" as in feather plucker. i had to 'educate' their moderators. LOL

I want to concentrate on the silver grey and colored, but also a small line of cuckoo, so i can work on a project strain of crele. found a pic of a crele yesterday, while i was looking for something else entirely LOL (i don't think the hen pictured is crele)

You will love silkies! They are wonderful broodies and make awesome pets
They do not fly well because of soft feathers, and are a bit more sensitive to heat and cold. But they are so adorable, they are worth the extra bother. Hatch on!

I with ya. We're working on that HUGE piece of property. I have a backyard "flock" also. Only 2 girls right now. (And 3 ducks). I take all my neighbors eggs so they don't complain. However they are all 65+ yrs of age and remember when chickens were a necessity not a novelty... so that helps.

i understand entirely... however. if/when ou get that property, make sure it isn't vertical acreage LOL i own 26 acres of mountainside but that gives me about 1-2 USABLE acres in the bunch. unless i want to put the birds WAY away from the house. which i don't. since there's no electric or water down at the bottom of the hill., or at the top either, which is the only other flattish area.

All good advice. The place we're looking at now has 11 acres and is in a flood plain. (That sounds scarier than it is.) But it has a perfect little barn for my girls! (And the goat I plan on getting....and the dairy cow... and the bunnies... and don't forget turkeys, guineas, and more chickens.)

Oh, and the ducks.
