I want to kill my dogs...

I'm sorry for your loss and I know your unkind words about the dogs were just the frustration of the whole thing.
My Charlie (irish wolfhound x) is like a child to me. She's been thru thick and thin with me. Still, she grabbed a chick once (didn't hurt it) and got one of only two spankings I've ever given her.
I wish you luck with protecting your chickens from the dogs. A pen sounds like the best plan.
Tomorrow will be a better day.

Believe me, I feel your pain. My dogs killed my first set of chicks, but instead of being mad at the dogs, I was more mad at myself. I knew the risks of having the chickens with the dogs, and it was only through my carelessness that they had the opportunity to get to them. So, don't be too hard on the dogs, and increase your vigilance. We're all one big happy family now!

Sorry to hear about your loss

I know how it feels the same thing happened to me years back with my German Shepard ""Jessie""

After that I worked with her every chance I had to train her not to attack my free range chickens.

It took some time but I got her trained. I would take her out and walk with her on a leash around the chickens and would scold and correct her if she showed aggression towards the chickens

I am sorry for your loss. There isn't a dog a live that will not kill rabbits, chickens, etc, given the chance. I have three 15-20 lb Dachshunds and if a rabbit, squirrel, cat gets in their yard--they will kill it.. Same with our large mixed hounds..We keep our dogs in a secure chain link fence with electric on the top to keep them safe. I have rescued and owned many, many dogs (we own 9 now) and would NEVER trust any of my dogs with small animals without adult supervision.. Your dogs have the 'pack' mentality , it helps to support or feed each habit--good or bad.. The more that are in the pack, the more brave they become.. YOU have to be in control... Build a secure yard for them AWAY from your chickens and other small animals...

Good luck.

I'm feeling better now, thanks for your support. I will divide the yard tomorrow with chain link, with secure coops so i can let the dogs roam the whole property at night. I'm just sad that this had to happen. I'll just order some new chickens.

pretty much sums it up. as hard as it is to admit the buck stops at the owner of both dogs and birds. one other note, at 1 1/2 year old those dogs are consider puppies to a degree.
the lab may well have nothing to do with the situation. most are soft mouth by nature.
in any event , the dogs should never have had access to the birds. hang in there, you'll get it worked out.

So sorry. I had this happen too with one of my white shepherds. No matter how hard I tried she would kill the chickens. They would jump the fence into the front yard and she would kill and eat them. I wanted my chickens to free range and not have to worry about dead animals in the yard or worrying every time I left. I re-homed her with a heavy heart to a very nice lady, with a big yard, plenty of squirrels to chase and she has time to play with her all day.......... and most importantly no other animals. She lets me know how she's doing, and I'm sure she is much happier there. My other shepherd does not mess with the chickens and my GP is a big fluffy white chicken in with them all.... It hurts, it breaks your heart but things will get better. We all understand here.

Thanks for the offer I really appreciate it, but i'm kind of far. Puerto Rico. I still got two younger silkies that haven't started laying. But this one was really speacil as it was the first silkie I got and she had already hatched 3 times, I just kept giving them away as I thought I would have her forever. Now I got the original rooster silkie and the two young silkies. I'm just very sad to see her go like that. Specially in the last couple of weeks we were really bonding as she would come and I would pick her up and have her for while. This had never happened before with the chickens. The dogs are just spoiled.
