I want to start a veggie garden but I have never done it before..help?

This guy in Brentwood TN has created a booming business using horse poo.
Royal soil

I composted horse poo last year. I monitor the temps in my compost piles with a modified meat thermometer. It reached 163 degrees in there at one point. I kept it turned and added it to the garden once it was finished composting. I didn't have any problems with weeds as a result. I added uncomposted cow manure one time, I will never do that again!!!!

True, if you use manure--especially horse, cow, etc--it should be composed. Not only is fresh stuff too nitrogen "hot" but composting, if it get to the highest temperatures, will kill most weed seeds--not all, however, tomato seeds will survive for one. I recall someplace in FL where residents were using compost from sewer plants for lawn fertilizer and the whole area had tomatoes growing on their lawns.
