I Want To Thank You Chick Sexer!

Well, I guess you were the recipient of the 2% non-guaranteed sexed pullet.

One of the "joys" of chicken raising.
It'd be nice for some kind of definitive external sign of gender. However, it would also be quite disturbing if my young roos sported the "package" my Nigerian Dwarf goats display. That's an image!

The feed store where I bought my chicks also said they'd take back and re-home any of the "hen" chicks that turned out to be roosters. I fully intended to do so, if that happened. Well, it did: I got an accidental roo.

By the time I was absolutely sure Carl wasn't Carly, I was too attached to him. My landlady didn't mind (she lives in the front house and I live on the back house of the acre she owns), and the only neighbors whose opinions matter to me swear they don't mind his crowing. I choose to believe them. (The other folks who CHAIN a chihuahua mix and leave her out all hours to whine and bark can kiss my patootie.)

Carl is a sweetie EE and I think he's really handsome.

So, my recommendation is to keep your accidental roo, too.

Did anyone metion that the pic of the young hen in the first picture is a hen? It's a leghorn and roosters have MUCH larger combs, sickle feathers, and flowing tails. Unless the thread is a joke, a girl is in the OP's picture.

She should start laying VERY soon. Big white eggs.
