I was disgusted and sad

I commend you for rescuing them. the ones I saw were in WAY worse condition than this. The only breeds I could recognize were BSL and a few RSL but there were feathers gone in patches and they were just pitiful. I'll bet they had mites too...with the feather loss. but then again they really didn't have enough beak to preen themselves either. I really should have made a stink about the condition of the birds, because there were so many people around..it really would have put a hamper on the sales at that moment at least. but then again at least 50%+ of the crowd wouldn't have understood english (this is not meant in a negative way just stating that there were a lot of "english as a second language" people in the crowd is all I mean). if we go up there again, I will report them some how, someway. whether it is to the office where you pay to rent a section or table there or to someone that could stop the sale of such a tragedy.

for scaley leg mites all you need is WD-40 right??! I mean come on, he had 4 or 5 in the same cage he could spray at one time! urgh sickening people. how can you take pride in selling something of that poor quality. I sure as heck wouldn't want to eat those birds nor eat the eggs from them either

wd-40 ahhh pass on that one! Maybe he was sellin Fighting birds? Which is totally wrong and i would have flipped! But it really makes you wonder about their condition. Can you call someone about it and have them come out and check them?

Ugh, it makes me want to wash my hands & change my clothes & shoes just reading about this! I hope you did the same before going back to your own flock!

Perhaps you should contact your local Animal Control or Humane Society to report this.

they were mostly hens, so I doubt they were for fighting. probably the most likely purpose was for food. I am not sure who I can call, because there wasn't a "business sign" or anything like that. and the flee market is only open friday-sunday. but if I see them again, I will be sure to let someone know and make a big deal about the welfare of those animals reguardless of their fate

Gary the duck.

Nice save on those birds!

I try to avoid those kinds of markets for that very reason. Too sad.
