Hi all,

TSC Grab bag chick. I think it is an old English bantam but not sure. I believe it is at least 5.5 weeks old now. The comb says boy to me but I notice in pictures I google that old English hens have larger combs like the roos do. Am i correct on the breed? TSC said that the bantams came from welp hatchery if that helps.

Also, the chick not being sexed scares me. It was one of those impulse buys that may come to bite me on the rear because if its a rooster I need to send it down the road. Though the pictures make it look red, the comb is not red but sort of a pale fleshy or orange color under normal light. If temperament at this age is any indication, it is the most submissive of any chicks I have. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

it is not a single comb, so it cant be old english...it has a comb like a sebright....I dont know

I checked welp factory for sebright. They sell a silver and a buff. One example of chick is buff color and the other is white. This chick was all black. As it has aged it has stayed all black except for the belly that seems to be white color. But i will continue to research that breed

That chick looks like a rose combed breed and it is a roo. the comb is prominent, more than the females.

However I see lack of wattles, but it could be a poor quality example of an d'Anvers but I don't see any bay color on him. Black and Blue d'Anvers can be found in private breeders but not sure hatcheries have them.

No, I do not think it is a Sebright at all, no color of that kind for breed in the US unless someone crossbred them. I bet your chick is a Black Rosecomb.

I looked up rose comb and yes it does look a fair amount like the pictures I see. So... the comb says it is for sure a roo then? Do the lack of wattles suggest it might not be a rooster?

He might be a late bloomer so sometimes wattles comes later but its a wait and see there LOL!

Ok thank you So... how long would i wait to see if he or she gets wattles? I feel obligated to hopefully give him or her a home since it was my dumb decision to grab it and buy it. Thank you all!
