I wish *I* was getting $65,000

Well, there is the legal aspect of inheritance, however, marriage to me outweighs any of that. I may legally keep my inheritance, but trust me, if there was enough, there would be a new roof on our house

Guess might depend on if you have a good, stable marriage or not, though.

My thoughts exactly. If I were inheriting money, then my husband would be inheriting it, too.

That's how it works in our home too. Though when Ken got his settlement "We" got a boat, and "I" got underwear.

Think of the shopping you could do with 65,000 at my fancy underpinings boutique!

When my 2nd husband passed I recieved his life insurance. A large portion went to his mother for her long-term care (she was 72), if there's any left when she passes, his nephews. Rest I chucked into a money market and went to university F/T to finish my bachelor's (I was 20 at the time). When my son was born there was a huge hospital bill (lifeflight, months in the hospital, transfusion, the works. I spent the last of it paying off the hospital for saving him.

Worth every penny.

That depends upon state law. There are a number of Community Property states where, for the most part, what is owned by one spouse is owned by both spouses under state law.

Right. Once any inheritance is co-mingled in any way it does. But until then in most if not all situations as long as it is kept separate completely (which is hard to do) it is separate property.

As I came into my current marriage with it in a seperate account, it was legally "mine", however Mr Saddi knew how much I had in there.

If I may suggest, what we do with taxes or anytime we get a large influx of funds, we each get X amount that we can pull out in cash to spend. Last year I bought chickens and coop with my part, he bought a new computer. By each of use getting the same $ amount and not having to account for it, it makes spending money on the sensiable things more palpatable.
