I would like your opinion - it's an ethical question

I would have put her down, if she was mine. Our neighbor's Doberman had dementia in her old age, and that alone would have been enough for me to choose euthanasia. They kept putting it off and just locking her in crates, but when she would get those fits she would eat her way out of the kennels and then panic in the house. She ate all the molding from around every door in the house in an attempt to escape the house.

They finally realized what needed to be done, when she ate her way out of the last crate and then broke a house window, cutting herself pretty badly. She suffered from terrible dementia. The family came home to blood all over the furniture, the dog crate, the windows, and even the kitchen counters, from where Fifi had literally lost her mind and was trying to "escape" the house she lived in for so long. It was a sad day, but it was better than letting her live such a panicked end.

Glad to hear she lived such a long great life. Remember her for the life she lived and not her end, because for animals it is the life they lived that matters the most.

It is a hard decision.
Just 2 weeks ago we had to put Poopy down.

We had him since he was a puppy. He was blind, def, and arthritic. On top of that he started having seizures. He would loose control of his back legs. And since he could not walk he had no control of his bodily functions. He would go and then just howl. As if he was embarrassed.

Poor Poopy. It was one of those things we didn't put him down because it was too hard for us. He was ready 2 years ago. We just kept putting it off. It was really hard to see him go from being fine to not even being able to walk.

I feel for you. Sorry you have to make such a hard decision. It is not easy but I think you know what is best for her. So sorry.
