IA here

Okay....

I am up to thirty Iowa Blues so far with this plan in mind:

Place order tomorrow just before 10:00 CST. (thats when I go in to work).
Am ordering a total of 34 birds from both Privett and Ideal, unless someone else steps up to the plate before I leave for work, thats the deadline!
The actual count is 30 but am ordering a small % more to cover any loss.
The order will consist of 1/2 st. run and 1/2 pullets from both hatcheries. I will mark the pullets if they are not already.
Remember, you will only be expected to buy what you have already committed to, and that will be when you take delivery of them. The extra birds are my dime, no-one else will incur that cost.
This is fun! I have always found a fascination with rare breeds and now another one off the list!
I will accept donations or care packages. Having 34 chicks plus my own two bators full all yapping at the sametime. Plus the Sussex trio coming in, the Lamona trio coming in and the Buff Catalana............................................................................................................. OH MY............ What have I done! I NEED MORE CHICKEN MILK ! At least two gallons!!! Of course I am just kidding!

If anyone has questions don't be afraid to ask. I'll just mosey along now and get some old pens down from the garage attic!

Wow, you are a brave man. Obviously you've been doing this a while.

I was talking to my two boys tonight and the subject came up that you raise all kinds of chickens and we live close to you.....we'd be interested in coming for a visit sometime, if that wouldn't put you out, to see your set-up and chickens. We only have "brown egg layers" and I am very interested in getting some rare types of chickens in the future. Would really love to see what other people have. But only if you're comfortable with it.

We have two boys also, 11 and 9, who really enjoy helping me with the chickens.

Let me know if it would work for you and when would be a good time. You can pm me if you want. (if you aren't interested in us coming for a visit, I completely understand. In that case, you can just ignore this.)

Hi,

I live in the Iowa City area, and was wondering if there was anyone within 45 minutes or so of Iowa City that wants to sell any pullets or one year old hens? I used to buy my pullets from Wren (Karen) but I see she moved to FL! I prefer to buy young chickens because I don't have time to deal with raising chicks.

All I want is three young hens or pullets to add to my flock who are old enough to be outside with the flock, but still young so they will be laying lots of eggs! I was paying Karen ten bucks a chicken. Not sure if that is agreeable to other people so we can renegotiate if needed.

They will be joining a small backyard flock with a coop, run and woods and hayfield to free range when we are home. So this would be a good chance for someone who got too many chicks this summer to sell some where they would continue an egg laying career.

Any takers?

Hi! I just met Karen a few months ago. Wish I had met her sooner, she was great! We still have her sister, which is awesome! I have some of her birds in my flock.

I have 3 hens I would sell and one pullet. 2 are black sex links, one is a blue EE that lays brown eggs that I got from Dean/Happy Creek Exotics. The pullet is a Black Copper Marans that is a sport color. I'm an hour away from Iowa City in Troy Mills. I might have some black Ameraucana pullets for sale, I'll have to check. All $10 each.

There is a chicken sale tomorrow at the Kalona Sales barn. They always have a ton of chickens to choose from. I don't have any pullets or hens for sale at the moment. I got some Ameraucana from Wren last year that I love. I didn't know she had moved. I love my little hen I got from Flashpoint also

Greenmulberry - I have two black Ameracauna pullets from FlashPointFarms that have recently started laying lovely blue/green eggs. If you can get some from her I highly recommend it! I know I'll be going back to get more at some point. I had one disappear for a couple weeks and come back and I was sure glad to see her. I guess she tried to sit on a nest somewhere and gave up. I thought 20 weeks would be too young to go broody:idunno

I'm going to the Kalona Sale tomorrow, never been to the exotic auction before, should be interesting:rolleyes:

Yeah I didn't know Wren had moved either but she never responded to my last pm so I did a search of her posts and I see she moved to Jacksonville FL!! To a non chicken home!!!

I got some real nice chickens from her over the years.

I currently have a nice black Ameracauna she sold me that lays really pretty eggs. She told me the chicken's beard wasn't quite as dark as it was supposed to be, but I can't tell. The egg color is perfect though, I have had feed store EEs before that laid pale green eggs, these eggs are very boldly aqua blue.

I am going to try to work out something with Flashpoint to get some chickens. I have never had a marans before, so I want that one certainly.

As for the sale barn, I am going to skip it for now but it is good to know about. I am pregnant and easily exhausted, everything like that sounds tiring to me right now.
