For those of you selling eggs how much are you getting a dozen? I am talking eating eggs. Also I just had someone contact me looking for Silkies, do any of you have any for sale and I can direct her your way?

I don't ever sell my eggs for eating. Between me, my mom and my daughter there usually aren't enough to go around...

On a really torqued at my cavalier note:

He killed 2 of my new chickens today. He killed one of the silkie babies and the silver seabright roo. Now I am beginning to wonder if he is the one who killed Bella earlier in the month. I didn't catch him this time, but I did catch him chasing down the silver seabright hen. When I went to close up the coop I found both of those birds dead in the middle of the yard with little/no damage to their bodies.

He is spending the night in the garage after my husband showed him the bodies. I know you aren't supposed to correct them unless you catch them in the act - but he knew what he did wrong. Once my husband showed him the dead chicken he immediately put his tail between his legs and turned his head away.

I guess he is now banished from the fenced area and will have to be chained when he is outside. If I didn't love him so much for his other qualities I would have throttled him.

I just have to say "hi!" to everyone here in Iowa. I live NE of the Cedar Rapids area. This is the neatest thread!

I have some organically fed roosters for sale ($5 each). They are all 8 weeks old. All came from McMurray Hatchery, except for the Welsummers who came from ET Poultry in Troy Mills.
I have a Golden Campine (very active - the most fun to watch), a Silver Laced Wyandotte (nice and big, likes to be the first to jump on your lap), a Buff Orpington (super sweet and cuddly), and three Welsummers (curious trio). All have been held since they were chicks (by the entire family) and are very friendly. They are healthy, cold hardy chickens and will be beautiful as adults. Craigslist has pics.

I only have enough space for the hens and really shouldn't have a rooster since the neighbors are too close.

So sad...

Great to be part of the Iowa Gang!

Sorry to hear about the dog v chickens issue. Just when you least expect it too. I know how I felt when we came home and all the neighbors came rushing over after a dog attack at our house. They saw it and chased the dog away while we were 12 miles away. One of the Vorwerk girls lost all her tail feathers and was scared silly for a few days, she would not leave my shoulder. Showed us that our neighbords do care. One of them picked the girl up and put her in the coop. he thought she was dead, but she was playing possum.

Trish, I finally hooked up with Gary for about 5 minutes and what a nice guy! He told me the funny story about getting started and how the results are kinda... awkward? He said we would see each other in IA City.

In other news, that pretty little Serama girl got a #2

. Poor dear. I also came home with... wait for it.... wait... just kidding, a bantam buff Orp pullet, (Buffy of course and she is a sweetheart), and I could not resist, try as I might, I had to get another pair of Vorwerks. They are so pretty and squirrely. The males a nut bag! Had to hold him upside down to calm him down, not used to being handled at all. It's gonna take some therapy.
Speaking of nut bags... bad pun... I was killing some time in an antique/junk store and found an old wooden box, with an apparatus called "an electronic chicken caponizer"! It was factory made with a manual and everything, probes and all and very clean! They wanted 49.50 for it and if it was 20.00 maybe but naw, not that much for a voodoo machine. Had to explain that to a 13 yr. old. Told him the old John Wayne line about turnin you from a rooster to a hen.........

I get $1.50 per dozen on eating eggs.

We may have some Silky hens. I saw her ad on craigslist? I already forwarded it to Liz, who is ShowMeGirl here on BYC.

Hi! I think I remember you. Long blonde hair, right? Can't remember your name but remember you buying Wellie's from me. I'm Trish From ETPoultry.

Welcome to the Iowa here thread. We have a great bunch here!!!

I'm glad Gary decided to go to the IA City show.

An Electronic Chicken Caponizer, huh? I'd pay $1 to see that!
