IA here

Trish, I never got to see your birds! I was so pre-occupied, just selfish I guess. Thats the most birds we have ever taken to a show.
I am very glad Tira was able to get her Iowa Blues.
You were not kidding when we talked banquet night when you, lost the Serama! (we won't tell Steph that you lost the pretty little Serama)

, That there was a crate of 5 Blues. I thought you had sniffed too much wood shavings but there they were. There is one youngman in my nuclear family whos has been oddly quiet about that incident and I think I know wherein lies the culprit. Kari, I just knew there were more of them only one box had been misplaced!
When we were loading up, one of the pet taxis was missing! That caused a huge family arguement! But my son, old eagle eye, spotted it with a stack of someone elses birds and they had a bird in it! he told them they had made a mistake and they asked what made him feel that way and he said cause thats our last name written in marker on the top! They apologized, removed the bird and he set about taking it apart for the trip home.
Kari, who was that nice young man you introduced me to that had the other IA Blues? I have already forgotten his name. The guy with the New Hampshire Reds, right behind the Orloffs, I could kick myself for not talking with him earlier. He has 30 birds at home for sale and I just wanted one pullet but he did not want to sell me one of the show birds. Had I spoken to him Fridfay or sat., he could have brought a couple down for me to look over. Wish I could have done something, maybe some eggs much to my chagrin.

.
Jason, how did the chicks do? They were really starting to looked travel stressed. Some pedialyte would be good for them or Nutri-drench.
As for me, the birds were happy to be home and so was I. Looks like a diet of prune juice for me for a few days, oh joy! The birds are gonna have a long nights sleep. Mr. Sussex was still limping but I did put him back in with the girls, he is not as aggressive as he has been and I think the rest and socil climate will help him heal watever he's got sprained hopefully not broken.

It was great fun at the show. Glad to meet so many of you in person

It was kind of chaotic though, I wish I had more time to talk to you and see your birds. I got to see Eric's but that's it!

The guy who had the IA Blues in the sale coops lives in Cedar Rapids. His name is Curtis and we are planning to stay in touch about the breeding project. He isn't on BYC, but I encouraged him to check it out

I called on them just as they were getting home to do chores and they were nice enough to come back and sell me the middle coop of birds. He raised these babies but got his original chicks from Ideal, so I guess they are the same stock as ours. He is breeding to get the good silver heads back on the hens and also told me they are supposed to have dark eyes. He said some have light eyes, but it's a trait the original strain did not have.

The IA Blue chicks are doing great! They were pretty happy to be out of the crate and I find they fly really well. I may have to throw a tarp over the other half of the kennel panels

I did put the other 4 in with them since I didn't have anywhere else to put them. They are a bit bigger than most of Eric's but they seem to be getting along OK. it seems Eric spoiled them a bit, though. When I left them the first night after chores and turned off the lights they cried and cried until I came back to sit with them. I was finally able to leave when they settled down in the corner to sleep. There wasn't any way I was going to be allowed to let them in my kitchen!

Just got some good news. Got called for a job interview tomorrow morning for a custodial position at the elementary school here in town. The hours are not ideal but it's full benefits, just like teachers get, including Ipers, and a decent wage. My advantage is that I live across the street from the high school and thats always good.... Wish me luck!

ETA: I am glad the Blues are flying around! Thats one thing that I could not provide them with. Well, Curtis seemed like a nice guy Kari and someone we should get in here on BYC if possible to collaberate. I feel so isolated up here in no-mans land!
The Blues always hated to have the light turned off. They would peep around until they found each other in the dark. I did forget to pack their jammies Kari, sorry! I also had a red brooder light on in the coop area too, to keep the brooder chicks warm so it would cast a slight glow around the room.

OK, I'll get the poor lonely peeps a night light

It's not completely dark in there since the yard light shines through the window, but I don't want them to be scared

. I just figured you must have sat reading them stories before bed since they were so happy I came back

Curtis does seem like a nice ernest chicken guy. They don't have a computer at home, so not sure we'll get him online or not.

Good luck on the job!

Oh my goodness! I didn't mean they need a night light! LOL There was just a light in the brooder all the time, still is. I'm sure the yard light will be fine until they get used to their surroundings. And no, no bedtime stories! OMG!! I just gave them a little warm chicken milk with their cookies............
Maybe Curtis is Amish? That might explain the beard??? Just kidding.

One of the buttercups layed an egg today, so we put it in with the Orloff eggs, since we only put them in a few hours earlier. We were going to start them last night but the bator was taking too long to stabilize.

My mom said the rooster was crowing some. She wasn't very happy about that lol.

ETA: Forgot, my mom said she was going to eat any other eggs they laid

The middle coop was the best looking bunch. The rooster I have here has even more silver on him and is about the size of those. He is definately my "keeper" roo for now. Getting the silver heads back on the girls is definately one of my top priorities. I wish I would have had the chance to talk to him also. I hope someone at least has his phone number!

Glad everyone had a good time.
Eric - I didn't know you were looking for a job again.

Jason;

How'd the chicks do? They had been so stressed from travel, hope they made it Was that Troy with you? It's so tough this time of year to be hauling chicks around.
I do have another hatch due on Sunday and will let you know what I hatch.
Eric

Steph;
I was just doing some temp work this summer. it did not pan out like I had hoped, should have figured that from the start. I have worked for those people before.

ETA: The interview went very well but, I have learned not to get too confident. there is even 12 hrs. a week every week, overtime available as well if you want it. Full benies, free health insurance Ipers etc! I really hope to hear from them. There are 3 more interviews for them, last one is Fri. I should know Monday.
