I think it is CRD maybe. The outside birds are slowly coming out of it. Only three have any symptoms anymore. My 3 year old cuckoo maran was one of the worse and her comb is now red again. It is just now going through the "garage" birds.

I wish it was warm out.

My tooth still hurts. Been on antibiotics for a week now.

So far Tank is the only one I have lost to this although I was reading in chicks it cuases their growth to stunt and they are not "thrifty". Makes me wonder about that Iowa Blue that died. He showed no other symptoms though. P is still eating and driking, just run down. The babies still hang out by her but she isn't trying to mother them amymore. They have heat in the garage (heat lamp)

The tooth broke last year. I am opting for a root canal/crown on the tooth but we don't have dental at this point. Hubby is supposed to get it lined up at work so now he wants me to wait until January to have the work done. I don't think he has ever had a tooth-ache. It was abcessed and the nerve is dying and exposed to air.

I am getting very cranky. Thank goodness the dentist gave me a prescription for percocet. I am not normally a pill taker but it is the only way I can get any sleep.

So many respitory infections and ailments resemble othesr thats it is hard to nail down exactly what it is unless a necropsy is done by a qualified lab.
Kinda like Brooster, the Buttercup roo that Tira now has. I treated him many different ways for a cough and sneeze and what it boils down to is an allergy. When he is at the shows, it's gone! It's really weird but chickens are people too!
Have you been giving P any oyster shell? She may be calcium depleted. I mix it right in with their feed, the fine stuff for chicks, I think it's number one grade or size.
These are just thought I have, just trying to help. I'm no expert.
I sure hope your tooth gets better soon. My back being out is enough to drive me nutty! Wish I had some of your pain killers so I could sleep...............

All my birds are learning Christmas carols. I leave a radio on all day to keep them calm. It really helps. If I forget to turn it off, I hear them cackling "Jingle Bells" all nite long!

Trish, here's an updated picture on a couple of cochins at 7 weeks. They are now running with the big flock during the day and having a grand time!

Looks like you'll have a boy and a girl there. Sweet! That rooster will develop slow, which is good, and he's going to be much bigger than the pullet, even though she is bigger now. It seems every Splash I've seen out of this line is bigger, develops and fills out slowly, are are a bit more flighty. Flighty for a Cochin anyway. Thanks for posting the pix!
