My husband suggested that they heard me say cull so they are just sacrificing themselves.

Last night I left the light on in the coop and when I peeked in the window three of the smaller birds were laying on their sides in the new hay. I thought HOLY CRAP three more died, but then they woke up and just looked at me like "Go Away Lady, we are getting our beauty sleep"

I've never seen chickens sleep laying on their side unless they were taking a dust bath in the sun.

I've got some young ones that do that to, or at least they did when they had a heat lamp. Thed scuff up the shavings and stretch out tanning under the lamp. Very cute

That's too bad. I think I have a coon visiting us again too, though they have never taken birds that I know of. I've had a couple go missing, but never any sign of what happened. Time to set a trap again.

Your SCARING me!!!!

No sign of coons this morning. It may have been cats that trashed the place, though I don't know why. They are fed well enough they don't need to go digging through the barrel at night

Terrible about your sick birds! I have a hen that has a bald patch behind her comb. I think someone is helping her with that though. Must like the tonsur look.

Two of the younger IA blues are crowing now, and one has a beautiful voice if such could be said. I hope I can get some pictures of them in the sun this weekend.

I had a Polish roo briefly, he was a real sweet heart. He got the snot beat out of him on a regular basis so I couldn't keep him:/ Hopefully he's a 4-H show bird now

They love laying on the warming pad.

The dad, Captain Sully, is totally oblivious. He was more interested in soaking up the 70 degree weather.
