Look what actually works now.

Notice the eggs in it. I do have a few double stacked so I went and got another turner today. The plan is to use the bottom shelf as a hatcher. The only problem is with it being so humid outside the humidity is 65%. I took the sponge out because it was running 40% without. Keep you fingers crossed that I don't run into unexpected problems.

I am just winding up my second hatch and I did much better. I am going to end up with 12 chicks. I had a 13th one with an external pip and I think the already hatched chicks turned the egg over and then the chick couldn't get out. I found it when I cleaned out the other chicks this morning. I think I started with 19 and I knew going into lock down that 4 for sure were probably not hatching and there were a couple I was unsure of. So I guess I didn't do too bad.

Now I am sad,

I can't incubate anymore right now. We have no more room and I need to raise these up I have hatched in the last month to get them butchered. I love chickens. Too bad I wasn't able to live like this years ago!

I have not checked in for awhile so thought I'd better do just that. The heat has been oppressive up this way too. No losses but my only speckled sussex girl, hatched from the trio I had, is not looking so good, hope she recovers. She was fine but I moved some birds around and she became the target of a little roo that was not mean but very... "busy", and she got very weak. I am hoping she pulls through.
The "Poultry Plunge" is back on for the 16th of this month. I also think I have an Orloff wanting to go broody. She is in the nest box all the time but gets out and she screams at me like I am some kind of peeping Tom!

Yup, I built it. If I can build one anybody can build one. The main tip is make sure it fits through the door.

I will write more when I am done milking.

2 of my baby(2 wk old) muscovy babies slipped out of my hands when I was transferring them to an outside pen. They took off like a shot. One of them went straight for my group of 3 adult muscovies and was hanging with them. The next time I looked because I wanted to try to catch it again. It was gone. So is the other one. My yard is not fenced except for the runs and pens and I have a tall hay field right next to me. I bet I never see them again.

OH NO! I hope you do find them! Was it the one with black feet that you liked so much?

I went down to check the incubator today and it had come unplugged - down to 71 degrees

It looks like things are still moving and growing in the eggs but it may have killed off the pheasant eggs that are due Friday...

NO, it wasn't the brown footed one.

That's too bad about the incubator. How many pheasant eggs are you incubating and why? I am having trouble getting my muscovy sold. I sold 4 of them but no more. Hoping it was due to the holiday. I can't afford to have all these babies if they won't sell.
