IA here

Got home last night from a poultry show / vacation in Florida. The show was held in a big air conditioned building and it was needed due to temps in the mid 80's and lots of sun. I showed 17 birds and had RV with a Cochin variety that had never before earned Cochin breed club points. Same bird at show this weekend and the other picture is of him at the EIPA show November 2011. You have to keep type and let them grow out/blossom. It would have been easy to cull him a year ago but am glad I showed some restraint and kept him.

Hi everyone! I live NW of Creston, IA in the sw part of the state. I have standard barred cochins, partridge cochins, partridge rocks, australorps, silver penciled rocks, french blue marans, blue laced red wyondottes, silkies and frizzles. I also have lionhead rabbits, guineas, call ducks, 3 dogs, 5 cats and 2 horses. Whewww! Boy it doesn't seem like that much until I write it down! I had a few laying hens 25 yrs ago when we moved to the farm and the kids were little. But the neighbors dog took care of my hens and I just never replaced them. My bff talked me into going to a chicken sale last year and that was all it took. Within 2 months I had 7 breeds of chickens. We eat some of the eggs and I am incubating now. Sales start this weekend so the race is on again. I split my time in the summer camping and trail riding horses and going to chicken/exotic sales. We have several that go on around our area. Glad I found this forum. I case anyone has one, I need a standard barred cochin rooster, standard partridge rooster and an australorp rooster.

Thats a nice collection Crazycoop!

Can't help you with the roosters, but contact MrHeinze77 by PM about the Australorp rooster, I believe he might have one for you.

I come to Bedford all the time to camp and ride horses! My husband is actually from there. I lived there in jr high and my freshman year of high school. Thanks for the info karimw! I would have to be the odd duck needing roosters. Most people are trying to get read of them!

Hello
I live just outside of Greenfield. Sounds like you have alot of pretty chickens.
I am looking for some eggs to hatch.
I have 2 young white rock roosters. I bought them as day old, last fall. Now they are huge.
I plan for them to produce some peeps for me.
I still have my old rooster he is leghorn X buff orpington. and 3 hens also crossed with buff orpington.
I enjoyed hearing about your chicks.
Lisa

Crazycoop12, sounds like you have a menagerie! I also trail ride heavily through out the spring, summer and fall. I will pm you. would love to know some new place to go over in your portion of the state. I am in north central Iowa by Mason City, but I have lots of family in Hancock, Shelby, Avoca, so it would be fun to know some places over there where we could ride and camp.
Now on to chickens, I have lavender orps and lavender americaunas, and dominiques. Would be very interested in some BLRW. Possibley a swap for fertile eggs sometime? Love going to chicken swaps, none here until april that I am aware of. I enjoy all things chicken.

Hi all! My name is Jen, and we are just north of Ames. I'm originally from Davenport, but met hubby at ISU and we decided to stay in the area after college. We have 4 daughters ages 2-8, 2 cats and 3 dogs, including an 8 wk old great dane. :)

The girls and I are so excited to be starting our small flock this year. Hubby grew up raising all sorts of poulty on his farm, and we decided this would be a good year for us to start our own flock now that the girls are a bit older.

We're expecting our chicks on Tuesday! We ordered: 3 buff orps, 3 easter eggers (the girls are beyond excited for these), 2 silkies, 2 wyandottes, 1 buckeye, 1 mottled bantam cochin, 1 white cochin, 1 light brahma, 1 blue orpington, and a partridge penedesenca. In April we have olive egger and black copper maran hatching eggs coming too!

We are on the hunt for a red frizzle if anyone knows of any! They fell in love with The Chicken Chick's red frizzle Rachel so we are on the look out for chicks or hatching eggs. :)

So happy to be here!!
