I have Rhode Island red eggs but, i just seperated the hens with the rooster a week ago. Before that they were all together with the EE roo, and the RR loose in the yard during the day so it's anyone's guess what will hatch if you got them now. I'm in Des Moines and would help you out in a couple of weeks when I know they will be all RR.

Hi all! My name is Jen, and we are just north of Ames. I'm originally from Davenport, but met hubby at ISU and we decided to stay in the area after college. We have 4 daughters ages 2-8, 2 cats and 3 dogs, including an 8 wk old great dane.

The girls and I are so excited to be starting our small flock this year. Hubby grew up raising all sorts of poulty on his farm, and we decided this would be a good year for us to start our own flock now that the girls are a bit older.

We're expecting our chicks on Tuesday! We ordered: 3 buff orps, 3 easter eggers (the girls are beyond excited for these), 2 silkies, 2 wyandottes, 1 buckeye, 1 mottled bantam cochin, 1 white cochin, 1 light brahma, 1 blue orpington, and a partridge penedesenca. In April we have olive egger and black copper maran hatching eggs coming too!

We are on the hunt for a red frizzle if anyone knows of any! They fell in love with The Chicken Chick's red frizzle Rachel so we are on the look out for chicks or hatching eggs.

Hi Jen! You are not too far from me. My DH went to ISU also, for Farm Op. We have a 1 1/2 year old and a 4 year old. Sounds like you have some nice chicks coming! If you ever decide you want to do meat birds, we have the Featherman scalder & plucker we are thinking of renting it out since we only use it a couple times a year. We just bought it last year.

Only a few more days and our broody Australorp should be hatching her eggs! I'm beyond excited! She's only got 4 left so I am picking up some day old chicks from McMurray's on Saturday to give to her to raise. I ordered 2 Black Minorcas, 2 Red Leghorns, 3 buff Rocks & 3 Partridge Rocks. Hopefully she will do well with them, I've never had a broody raise chicks before, but I've got my brooder ready to go just in case she doesn't do her job. I think she will though, she's been amazing at setting on her eggs!

[Black Cochin Bantams]

10 minutes ago in the snow storm a wild turkey walked through the yard and headed to the back pasture. Lucky to get a few shots of it. Had to try out the camera with a 24x Zoom. It made my day. I am old enough to remember the 1st wild turkeys I saw well over 30 some years ago when they were scarce and just reintroduced back into the Iowa landscape. Now not uncommon at all just like the Bald Eagle that lands in a tree in front of our home regularly. Life is GOOD!

I have noticed an abundance of wild turkey and bald Eagles the last few years! That is so cool that they were in your yard. Love it! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

My place is on a regular route for a bald eagle for some reason. It regularly swoops across the front pasture over the coop. It gets everyone excited but I have never seen it show interest in my flock. Unfortunately I don't have enough cover to make it appealing to wild turkeys. I miss having them around, but my own turkeys keep me entertained
