x2 that is so sad. I found the PO are really slow lately even with just letters.

I see all the farm stores are getting their chicks in now.

I was at shoppers supply today and picked up an LG egg turner, but it doesn't fit my quail racks that I already have. I guess my other turner is a hovabator one so does anyone know where I can get a hovabator turner 1611 I think is the model number around here that's less then $40?
I'd say you'd have to order one. I think everyone around here carries the LG.

I see some of you on here are pollorum testers.
I would really like to have my flock tested, do any of you do the testing?
Or can you tell me a little about becoming a certified tester? I do some breeding and really have fun with my chickens, for the safety of all I would like to have them tested. I would also like to show some of them and I know they have to be tested. Thanks for your help.

I don't have any antigen right now, so I can't test. I won't get more until my certification expires next fall. The class is easy though. They only offer it once a year in the spring, so sign up soon. It is the through the ISU veterinary college.

Do you know if a Hovabator turner will fit an LG bator?

Thanks, maybe I will just put on my big girl panties and take the class.

not sure, I would guess yes but I don't have a LG to try it. When I measure the outside of the turners they are the same size. 15x15. the LG has slots that the racks slide down and lock when turned and the hovabator turner I have has more of a peg rack that you put pins in to hold in place. If this makes sense. I'm going to try and pull out all the egg racks that come with it and see if all my old racks fit in there. I just like to mix my quail and chicken racks together when incubating. that way I can use to different incubators that way If something happens to one incubator all of the same kind of eggs won't be ruined.

I am so heartbroken about our chicken order. They hatched on Mon, but 2 of the chicks didn't hatch out (blue orp and partridge penedesenca). They called in the afternoon about subs, and we chose 2 black austrolorps. The next day they shipped out at 4 pm, but for some reason were shipped Priority Mail instead of Express Mail. They were just coming from Ohio to Iowa, so I was hopeful they'd make it in time. I called to ask why they weren't shipped Express and was given the runaround.

The chicks didn't arrive at our po until Friday morning, and none of them made it, I didn't figure any would at that point. :( I called and got a full refund, and was told that 89 (89!) other orders went out priority mail by accident but that mine was the only one she'd heard of that took until Friday to get there, and that if they'd arrived Thursday they probably would have been okay.

So after that we drove to a hatchery a couple of hours away and picked out some beautiful chicks. 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Mille Fleurs, 4 Easter Eggers and 9 Silkies (2 blacks, 2 whites, 1 calico, 1 partridge, 1 blue, 1 splash, 1 grey). They are so pretty! My girls are in 7th Heaven. :)
So happy you got some new chicks! That is so sad about the others though. I refuse to have chicks hatched for that reason. there's so many hatcheries close by. I've picked up at Welp, Hoover's and McMurray. I know MM says they have a 25 chick min. but if you pick them up yourself you can get 10. I got mine Saturday, I ordered 10 and they gave me 5 extras for free!

Thank goodness we have the room for them!

Here's our new chicks I picked up from MM on Saturday. I put them under my Australorp that hatched out 4 chicks on Friday. This is 4 Buff Rocks, 4 Partridge Rocks, 3 Black Minorcas, 3 Red Leghorns, and one light gray mystery chick down in the lower right hand corner I believe is a Silver Spangled Hamburg. then the 4 we hatched out, 2 are White rocks and 2 are Australorp/White Rock crosses. Mama hen is doing a great job with all those babies!
