Almost the entire flock had lice. Not sure who started it, but whomever, it's been a pain. I researched and read all of the "oh don't do this" threads with regard to Ivermectin for bug control. I was close to choosing injectible but decided to go with pour-on with an eyedropper. It's been 4 days, and the flock looks so much better already. Last night couldn't find any adult bugs on Dolly (my test candidate who will hold still and do anything for a raisin) but still some eggs on the feather shaft. It's supposed to kill all the bugs, mites, lice, whatever, and is supposed to last 6 weeks. My process was to paint a toenail with red polish when they were treated, and I have 'stylin-chickens with pedicures' today.
Here was my formula in case anyone is interested:
5 weeks old chicks: 1 drop
bantams: 3 drops
full sized hens 5 drops
full sized roosters 6 drops
Stubby! yes, she's around but she looks pretty bad right now. I'd hate for you to see her because she's pretty bald. It's the bugs and the roosters. For awhile I put her in with the new chicks, but she hated it. She wants to be a big chicken and she has big chicken attitude. No one gets into a nest box without her approval, despite her small size.
We've had lots of fox trouble which my husband put to a stop last night after weeks of trying. We are hoping that it was alone.
And Steph, I have new ducks that you simply would love. They're part pekin and part swede and they look like someone dropped ink on them.
