IA here

Hi everyone

Sorry about the bad weather and loosing the baby chicks. We only got lots of rain here.

harleyjo, you live near me i live right outside of Greenfield, I love it here. Let me know if you need anything for your little homestead. I have garden seeds chics and rabbits.

I am going to De Moines tomorow, I am excited. I hope to meet pbjmaker and get some eggs.

I am going to pick up my granson sat. in KS I am letting him put the eggs in the bater and turn them. He is 7 I wont make him do all the turning, I am sure that would get old to him.

Well the sun is shining so I will go hang some clothes on the line. Lisa

Hello Iowans, I've been doing a lot of watching and reading and sure love this website! I got a lovely bator full of chicks from FlashPointFarm in March and all are still going strong. Thanks Trish! She gave me Welsummers, Americaunas, EEs, cochins, 2 cuckoo Marans, a few interesting crosses and one lonely Polish. At 12 weeks old I guess it's decision time for me. I need to do something with the extra roos. I'm rather fond of them but my husband wants to eat them. :rolleyes:Does anyone know where I could get them butchered? I live in Luzerne, which is fairly close to Cedar Rapids.

I have some of Trish's ameraucanas/EE's also. They are growing into wonderfully HANDSOME boys

I'm still hoping and waiting for them to become girls. Mine are around 5/6 weeks so there is still time.

I gave 6 roosters away yesterday to a gentleman who is relocating them down south. He says he has several friends with farms that could use some free range roosters.

Lisa - let me know when you are going to head up here - I might only be able to get you 6- 9 eggs. We seem to be having a laying strike this week.

I'm glad you all are happy with the eggs you got from me!!!

Next year, my partner in crime-Liz, will be taking over all of the EE's and I'll only have the purebred Ameraucana's. She will be using roosters from my stock, so egg color should stay mint green or blue.

Just wait until you all see what I have growing for next year's breeders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just put an ad on Craigslist today. Today and today only, week old chicks are $1 each.

pbjmaker I am coming to De Moines tomorow morning, I e-mailed you. What ever eggs you have will be fine. I have a few also and I am still looking. I would like to fill my bater up because a dog killed most of my chickens awhile back. Is there a place Near De moines that would have chicks or eggs for sale?

Are we alowed to but our phone #? on here???

Email me please, You might get my hubbys address. I put mine on the BYC info page, but I think if you try to e-mail me from it you will get my hubbys. It is his computer. I dont know, you could fill up a thimble with what i know about computers . (like how to spell computer) haha

I am traveling south from Greenfield to Witchata KS sat. If any one has fertile eggs to spare in that direction. Thanks lisa

Hi Lisa,

Yes we do live close together. I will let you know if I need anything. Right now more than anything we need more work so I can buy more things that I want for the chickens! lol

Work has been terribly slow for this time of year and when you are self employed that is not good.

I am loving this thread with all the Iowa people!

Hi everyone! I am looking for advise and experience and suggestions to the following:

My 11 year old wants to show chickens at the Iowa State Fair. I have been to the fair, love to go and die for the corndogs, but have NO clue what it takes to show poultry at the fair. I got on their website and saw that he can show as a Junior level competetor. so here are some of my questions:

1. Where do I find a vet to get them disease checked and certified? All our chicks came from a hatachery, but the paperwork was in the box with the chicks and they poo pooed all over it so I threw it away.

2. Does it really matter that they are hatachery breeds? It is our first year after all. Just looking for the experience.

3. What breed would show best? We have barred rocks, buffs, polish crested, Hamburgs, a partridge bantam cochin, leghorns, easter eggers and astrolops. All of them are handled daily and are pretty tame.

4. Any suggestions or advise is welcome!

I know in 4-H a lot of the kids show hatchery chickens but not sure at the fair. I do recall that the RIR's were definately not hatchery stock. I am putting my tiny serama pullet in the fair myself - if she stops being mad at me. I made her move from in the house to out in the coop and she is pouting.
