IA here

The red/white one, the red/blue one and the two bigger splashes look the most rooish. The two blue guys are smaller and for some reason don't really have any tails yet. The third splash one also is lacking a tail.

The red/white one is THE BOSS. They do whatever he does and he likes to push his way around. Mama still keeps him in check though. She is now smaller than them but they still listen pretty well.

Steph it's good to see Princess P is still haunting you in the evening! LOL
Thought I'd post some pics of Chubby and her new guy pal, Whitey. This is Curlys grandson. he is the smallest so far. Kind of boring in color but a nice little bird. I sold Sparkle, Curly and Charlie, in Richland Center.

I'll miss them but need to make room for some new breeds. The two kids that got Charlie and Curly got a pair of show winners there, I look forward to competing against them and hopefully will. Naughty is still here, and broody. She should be hatching any day now.
We are thinking about doing the IA State Fair this year. Not sure who I will enter however. They all look pretty scruffy! Is Princess going to the fair?

No, haven't tried again. Whitey has a nice red streak running down his leg so he should on top of things now! Maybe in a few days I'll try and set another one.

Yes the Princess is going to the fair - I need to get her entered.

I just sold all my Mille Fleur D'uccles this morning. I understand about making room. I will miss those girls. They were chatty happy dumb chickens. We just called them all the "dumb hens".

That makes me down to 14 adults and too many chicks.

I am already planning my next spring chicks... I want to keep a good productive bunch of laying hens so I intend to start another batch next spring. I have BSL and at least one BA. I am thinking about a breed that will be as productive as the BSLs but in a different color so I can easily tell each different aged group apart. I think I would like to keep around 20 or so. That way I can have what I want for me and my family and still be able to sell a few and then that helps defray some of the costs to have chickens. I love these things but we are also purpose driven in that they are to help provide meat and eggs for us.

Any suggestions for breeds? I wish I was in the country more with more room, I would definately have more. This is so much fun!

Oh and one more thing. We are picking up our chicks from Oak Hill Hatchery. They get the pullets chicks from Hoover. They drive up and pick them up and then we drive to Oak Hill and get them the same day they get them. We like this better than shipping them. So it would have to be a chick that Hoover carries.
