IA here

Steph; I know we will be setting up on Fri., probably around 1:00 or so. Plan to leave here early enough to put us in Des Moines by noon.
Poofy does have eggs under her, about 4 of them. Have a broody serama in the box next to her. Back to the maternity ward again!
Am also bringing down a little crele serama roo too. Was gonna keep him but have two more starts so he will come too. Would you like him? For free? He is very pretty! Kinda wild, have not held him much but he will calm down.
This will all take place if I feel better... Found out I was allergic to my high blood pressure meds, gave me a bad cough - "ace inhibitor cough". Dr. took me off meds and said monitor my blood pressure every day. Was sick last night with a fever, checked blood pressure this am and it was very high. Called the Dr. at home, (I know it's crazy... spoke with him at home on a Saturday), he put me on a different blood pressure pill and anitbiotics, got a bacterial infection too? Am feeling better but just plain worn out from coughing with a headache and hoping the pneumonia subsides. Other than that, I'm juuuust fine!

Hey IA people. If anyone has some muscovy ducklings. I need a couple. I had 2 and I think they were a male and female, that is what I want because I want to breed them. Anyway they were out in the yard playing an hour ago and now one of them is dead. It must have eaten something. They were around 7 weeks old or so. I want some around the same age and preferably female if you can tell. I live southwest of Winterset and northeast of Creston.

Hi every one

I have a stupid question, What do I do for lice. my chickens have never had it. I do not normaly use any medication.
I looked on frequently ask questions but did not find an answer there.
I butcherd a roo today and little white bugs ran up my arm...
HELP lisa

Eric - very temepted by the roo...
I will trade you him for all these EE roos I have!
I hope you get better this week! Go watch your chickens, they are good for lowering blood pressure.

Lisa - I have used "sevin" powder on my one roo that seems to attract lice/mites. (he is the only one I have ever seen them on) When I do it, I put some of the powder in a thinly worn sock or if you have a nylon stocking that would work. Tie it off and make a "poofer" that you just pat down the chicken with. I treated everyone just in case. Then treat again in 7-10 days. Seems to work well. You need to treat the coop area also.

I use Sevin garden dust as well. Even better is a cool, thorough, dip in a Permethrin solution. Soak them really well only keep their head above the water line... sometimes they like to dive! This will have a couple week residule. Another thing I have tried, and it works, is Frontline, the dog flea contorl. Just a drop at the base of their neck is all it takes. Controls any parasite that may attach itself to the skin including mites. It's good to use before a show.

Steph;
No trades necessary! I gotta cut down on inventory!!!!!!!! My bantam orloffs are doing enough crowing to wake the dead! Too bad theyhad to learn how.

I can meet you at the Burlington swap with some

I am no where near Burlington and my work schedule for awhile is not going to allow me time for any fun. I appreciate it though.

Ohhhh I hate to think about putting buggy stuff on them. I went around picking them up and did not find any more lice, only that one roo and he is gone now. I will keep a close eye on them.
Steph your 2 little blk. chicks are doing great I put them in the hen house tonight along with the other small chicks. I think the 2 blk. ones are pullets. In my experienc pullets get there tale feathers before roos do, and they have there's allready.
Dottie is fine also. She made freinds with the other hens. She does not talk to me anymore.

Sorry Lisa, no fair for me this year. I would love to go but business has been really slow this year. We finally have put some things together and I have a feeling that we are going to be swamped now for awhile. If you know of anyone who has some muscovy ducklings I am looking for some.

Steph;
I don't know if Chubby layed in a nest box for you or not but since being here she's always layed on the floor of her run, letting us know when she needs to come in and have an egg and she is very chatty with me when she wants to lay, like it's my fault ya know! Anyway, I put a nest box in the pen that she shares with the two adult Orloffs and she went in it right away making her cooing or purring sounds. But the male would not leave her alone. He was so busy trying to show it to the girls, he was not letting her lay! I finally saw her in it but her big buttowski was sticking out! LOL So she did lay in the box but, not really..... the egg was in front of it. Remember my stuff is for bantams! It's time to make a box just for her. I hope she can tolerate being with the Buckeyes while we are gone. I have to do some moving around to make it easier for the chicken sitters. They are pigs anyway with their feed and Chubby is like a big vacuum when she finds feed on the ground!
