IA here

I think he is trying to create his own harem. He is chasing them for romantic reasons. P. now walks with him sometimes. He lives in his own coop at night but she just leaves it and Mike hasn't fixed her escape route yet.

Northwest Iowa here. Anyone else from that area?

Just got my very first chickens this past April and had my very first egg this morning! They are five months old now.

Looking forward to expanding my flock this spring again and would like to know if there's anyone in northwest Iowa who sells/swaps/etc.....

Let me know!

Thanks.

Wow, this is a little late in replying but I did a search for "northwest Iowa" and one of my first posts came up with your reply to me. I didn't come back to this thread to see that you had replied! So sorry for that.

Actually, I live near Spirit Lake! I did get 12 chicks from Bomgaars in April and got my very first egg this morning! I didn't know that chickens were going to be so much fun.

I am glad to know that you are nearby because I do want to expand my flock, in time. I don't really want to do it with winter around the bend, but probably add a few next spring. So to know that you are nearby is a real plus!

Again, sorry for missing this post.

LOL! Better late than never. We live in Milford. I was born, raised and graduated from Spirit Lake. I may have some adult bantams that I would like to re-home for the winter if you're interested, a trio of Buckeye hens. They are very nice girls and very hardy. Would love to have you stop and see what we have available. Any kids in 4-H? Give me a PM.
ETA: I will PM you a list of upcoming shows, the closest to us anyway, and thats still a drive.

I wonder how his little friend that I did not know if it was a male or female is doing? I bet P would learn to like him alot more if they roosted together at night. You know they are social creatures... sometimes very social......
I had to remove all the eggs from the maternity ward. None of the eggs developed except for Honeys. She hatched out 3 tiny Serama chicks. The first one was so yellow, Ive never seen such a brilliant yellow! The last one to hatch was about 2 days behind the other two but caught up quick! One egg had to go.

That sure is yellow!!!!! I wonder if she will be some kind of splash color? Her wings are already looking splashish.
I like the stance of the lighter colored one.

The cartoon was hilarious - I about spit out my morning Dr. Pepper!

I would like to get P. to stay in with Charming at night and am thinking about adding Bella my mottled serama. She is an old wise hen but likes to be broody a lot.

Adding Bella would be a great idea! Experience and no crap is what they need. Hey... he would be great competition in Iowa City. (you probably already had on of those "muwahhhhaaa) things planned anyway right? Should be nicely grown by the. Make sure he does not get fiesty, give him treats and handle him alot. I bet he and Mike will become good friends! Does he still like to watch the computer?

Yes, that is some yellow! Glad you could read that cartoon. Was afraid it came out too small. So what is your daughter doing and does she like the new boy? I asked you but did not get a response. Or, has she moved on to other girl kind of interests like boys?

She likes him - but right now is NEVER home. She has swimming all the time and other high school interests. We had to ground her to get her to stay here yesterday. She didn't feel well, didn't want to go to swimming but went anyway. Then came home all whiney but still wanted to "go hang out with friends". We made the friend come here.

See the problem is now she has a drivers liscense

I've been feeding Charming out of my hand in the morning - seems to help. He doesn't fight me getting out of the coop anymore.

Did you sell the other ROOSTER?
