Hey Trish - can you PM me what all you had to do to get a NPIP certificate?

I've been reading about all the different respitory diseases - uggg none of it sounds good.

If they have MG or MS I could never get NPIP certified correct?


Who would I contact in Iowa about getting them tested? I was looking at the Iowa State extension site and wasn't sure.

It was nice to see everyone there yesterday. Often it's overwhelming to take in as much as you want cause your constantly drawn away, like your in a daze! Did everyone get to see the straw cochin?

One thing about a show is you are able to meet some of the best minds in chicken breeding and most are willing to talk about it. One man there, John Bashaw, (he and I share a common interest in Vorwerks) is very knowledgeable. Friday I was talking to him about the genetics of something and said I don't understand it. He grinned and put his head down and said ""thats what I've been doing for 30 yrs, working with 2 universities".

Ok I had my second dumb moment for the day.......... I went back to the hotel and watched tv!

I liked the last puppy pic Steph. Sometimes the shoes dessimaters can look like angels.

What kind of dogs are those St. Bernards? Coonhounds?

The NPIP is pretty easy to get. Just paperwork from the IPA.

How are everyones Blues doing? It will be a completely different world for them than they have been living in, they should thrive and grow like Emus

Home. The Iowa blues are currently wandering the kitchen. I got them some water, they were pretty thirsty lol. Well now they are all back in because they are making a huge mess lol.

We're home

The ducks are happy to be back. Yankee looked like he was telling the other 2 drakes I left back at home that he was back and he's king. The 3 hens were flying all around the farm like they were happy to be out of their show coops and acting like, "Why, walk anywhere, when we can fly?" Checked my emails and saw I sold a guinea keet Christmas card to someone in Iowa. Thought that was cool too that I sold a poultry card while I was away at the poultry show and wondered if it could have been someone from the show or BYC as it doesn't tell you who buys things just what state the sale came from.

I kind of fell in love with the cute little chickens on stilts. Might have to get me a few in the spring even though I was trying to move away from bantams in the flock. Hopefully I can get some more show Muscovy ducks in the spring/summer as well. I'm not sure what I will get next year with all the ones I kept back from this years hatch. The mother of two (Salt and Pepper) that I showed at the show got taken by a predator a few weeks ago

Hopefully her 2 daughters will carry on the bloodlines and produce some more like themselves or even better than themselves.

Yeah - those Iowa Blues (or any chicken for that matter ) can trash the indoors realllllly fast.

I had some birds in my basement for awhile. They got kicked out to the garage instead - at least I can hose that out.

I had to leave the birds at my moms :\\ put the Iowa blues in my old coop with lots of food and water and the buttercups are in that crate since they have enough room in there. Hopefully we can go over there tomorrow for a while and check on them.

Does that rooster crow at all, Eric? So far the buttercups have been quit..the ia blues have been louder than them.

We are going to see about starting the eggs tonight, we ran the bator all last night to test it and it has stayed stable.

Brooster is generally quiet. He is a nice boy. Won't jump in your lap don't won't be aggressive either.

I'm now planning on showing more often, love it!!! I don't think I did the greatest, competition was stiff with the Ameracauna's. Got 2nd out of 3 cockerels, all black.

Brought home lots of birds. Got to see some familiar faces. Kari and Steph, wish I could have talked to you more. I didn't realize there would be so much to clerking when I volunteered. Oh well, I'll still do it again. They need help at the shows with this.

Did anyone see that Black Minorca in the Junior section? Wow, was he ever HUGE. I have Buff Minorca's and they are about the size of a leghorn.

I loved the White Leghorn that was in Champion Row. Well, every bird in Champion Row, for that matter.

I was also checking out the Royal Palm that won. I talked to Art, the judge, and he told me that he has never placed a Royal Palm over other breeds. And that he has only seen one other Royal Palm of that quality in the 30 years he's been judging.

I learned a lot this weekend. While clerking was a bit stressful at times, it was fun. Art was very nice and talked about a lot of the birds he was going over, showing me what he was looking for. Eric, I didn't realize he was judging your bantam Buttercups! Well, I guess they are Tira's now.

I went to the banquet and found out there that the new APA SOP is estimated to be released Jan or Feb next year.

And Steph, if I ever decide to sell that pretty little Serama hen, you get first dibs.

Holy cow, Eric, you weren't kidding about those Iowa Blue's! Messy kids!
