It was only for a few brief hours I am sorry to say Trish. They all leave or fly out the next day, even my Mother left to spend Christmas between my brother in CO and Sis in WY. My Sis from here and my BIL went too! they will bring my Mom back this weekend. She's 83 and it's nice for her to be able to travel. She still likes it but, but not the long drives any more. Her last trip to WY by herself, was 2 years ago and it was pretty hard on her.
Funny, when I mention helping with the chickens, like cleaning out the pens, my wife goes shopping and the boys suddenly have something to do? I just don't understand it.
Guess I need to mention Christmas gifts more often and how quickly they can disappear!
Troy, I almost forgot.....
My friend up in MN not only knows who raises bantam cornish, (if thats what you were looking for), it is her! She has eggs for.... as I mentioned bantam White Laced Red and Dark Cornish. She said she just hatched some WLR and they all trurned out to be hens! She went on to say they are the same size as a bantam buckeye or brahma but it takes 2 hands to pick them up cause they are so dense!
I forgot to ask if I could forward her email or give you her username on BYC (even though she is not on very often), but sent her another email so I should get a response today and will pass it on when I do.
With my last hatch I only got 1 Orloff egg to hatch. We lost power 2 or 3 times during incubation and it really really took a toll.
Christmas eve day I stop turning another small hatch and they are due on the 27th. Had 6 Sussex eggs to start but only one developed. I forgot they were not together for awhile... duh! Am waiting for this hatch then will set some more. I have kept far too many eggs and will have to throw a bunch out. I hate to do that but they are probably too old. Is anyone interested in some bantam Speckled Sussex chicks that I will raise out for awhile, into early Spring? Maybe til Waverly? Is that in April or May?
I did get a 1/2 dozen Delaware eggs sent to Cedar Rapids. The folks called me when the eggs arrived and the guy was in awe at how well I'd packed them. He said "There was a lot of love in that packaging". Good old faithful USPS had smashed in a corner on the fortified box but not a single egg was broken! I also put in a couple Delware X Buckeyes for him to try. Even thought hey are yard monkeys, he appreciates that kind of stuff and has the room to raise them. I have hatched one and have two more in the bator due to hatch the 27th.
Still have to take and post pics of the White Orloffs, they are really something as they get bigger. Am gonna separate them from the other orloffs today, as I clean out pens with broken back and no help.... Oh woe is me! See if I go shopping for those ingrates........

I am sure I'll have to ask again. My wife is so tight she won't let me buy a new calendar until they go on sale in May! (Just kidding. I'm getting the evil eye even though I was giggling to myself)............

Adorable! Congrats!
So what do you do with chicks hatched in the dead of winter? Do they grow up to become house chickens?
Where you asking me or pbjmaker? lol
Our chicks are still in the bator, I thought we were going to move them yesterday, but we will today. There are cages set up with a heat lamp above them.
We finally got the legs taken off the hutch where the buttercups where. I wanted to did it over a week ago, but Jerrit didn't want to help
I got it done last night though, and figured out the bottom wiring came off. I was glad about that because I didn't like them being on the wire. And the Ia blue chicks are now roaming with the big birds.
Ah didn't know I was on this account! This is Tira.

My wife wants to know how the Buttercups are doing, especially Brooster. He was her favorite roo.
They are doing good. Probably a lot happier now that they get to scratch around in the shavings or whatever is in that pen! We can't let them out with the other birds because they fight. Brooster isn't sneezing as much now either lol. I haven't gotten any more eggs from the girls though. They might have been knocking their feed out before, if they were they will be getting more now since they can't knock it anywhere. I don't really want the chicks with the big chickens just because I don't want them having layer feed yet :\\ Maaaaaybe I can get jerrit to block of a corner in the pen...it's hard to get him to do some things
