Hi. I'm brand new to this site. I just registered after spending yesterday & today looking through the archives for info. I'm in Polk County, and I'm planning to get my first chickens this spring. I have a shed that I'd like to convert for a coop, so I've been looking at all the coop design and feeder/waterer threads.

I'm kind of glad we're going to be getting a cold spell so the ground will harden up for a bit. I need a break from the mud. Nothing like trying to walk (drag) a goat from building to building in 4 inches of mud!

Kari, how many eggs are you wanting in trade for the roosters?

I used to have a greenhouse. I'd start my plantings late February, they'd still be kind of small by planting time. I kind of miss it, just kind of. I would mix my own soil for the seedlings. More work than I had bargained for when I originally started the whole thing. Have fun with it, Kari! Are you going to be heating it?

It's really neat swimming outside at 6;00 AM!
Shipped out eggs this am. Fly out tomorrow at 10:20. 1/2 hr. in Nashville then Omaha and home. All are grumpy and tired here. nice hotel however beautiful tunnels in the pool area with crossed palms and hibiscus. the star jasmine is blooming too. azealous (sp), rainbow plants and all are in full bloom. Was gonna take a pic of the bananas growing at the resort but forgot. Caught crabs last night..... (somehow that did not come out right), then had dinner at a swanky beach cafe. Tom Cruise was there too and another actor I can't think of his name.
