IA here

The rental sounds and smells terrible. It's beyond my understanding how people can live like that and still be smart enough to breathe? It confounds me. I just sent Lora over there to assess a few things so we are in agreement about how to proceed with the clean up. I know she will come back in tears.

Tira; I will try and remember the email addy. The guy who called last was from here in IA around Ankeny but has never shown his birds. He may be appearing on this thread I hope, I encouraged him to. And just a few minutes ago another call about them. Lora spoke with that lady.

Lora, did not come back in tears but rather disgust. She said she could have cried if she'd stayed longer.

Really, we can only do chicks, because we don't get very many eggs even within a week, and with chicks whoever gets them should be pretty ensured all will make it. But I have to see how many Jerrit wants to sell..he's so picky. If the 4 in the bator now hatch, we will have 10 chicks, plus in a little over a week we will be putting another dozen into the bator...and hoping maybe some of the ia blues will be fertile

I'm thinking of maybe just putting a brahma, sex link and the barred rock with the ia blues into one pen..see might come out of those eggs

My Spring chick hatch is complete! Set 56, locked down 50, hatched 46.

And of course lots of EEs.

6 Cochin/EEs 3 look like this and 3 are a bit more blue. All splash? Could get white too I think.

I hatched 14 Welsummer/EE crosses and the rest Ameraucana/EEs.

Just found this thread.... I live in southwestern MN and already probably know some of you guys from the New Ulm swaps.

Eric....have some interesting news from this last weekend for you. The BCPPA finally got enough people together to have an election meeting. Due to a new baby, I'm stepping back this year from most responsibilities. I think I might actually be able to make the Waverly swap this year.

Lots of news for you from north of the border....

IA Jake.... The first clue that you were getting taken is that someone is selling silkie chicks for 4-H showing now anymore. Silkies are a very slow maturing breed and will barely even be sexable by fairtime, much less mature enough to compete if you get them now. If you want something in prime condition for the summer shows, you need them out of the shell last october already. Even those late January chicks barely are filling out in time. If you spend the money and time to grow them out, you might be lucky to get $5-10 each from the Asians though.

hint: if you want some good stock, get a membership in the ASBC and put a notice on their 'wanted' forum. Alot of us have waiting lists, but some of the people in the southern states have already been hatching all winter and may be able to help you out. You usually get what you pay for too. Alot of reputable breeders don't give 4-H discounts unless they are mentoring the kids usually. Lol if you just are looking for a good deal moneywise, MM had some silkie chicks for $3.56 each last time I looked. Most breeders are at least in the $5-15 per chick range for something with show potential.

Troy;
I will give you a call tomorrrow if thats okay. Can I call anytime or specific required?

Hi Amy! Even though you are from MN we'll lift up the wire and let you sneak under the fence.

So how are you and baby doing? Hope you had a short hatch after such a long incubation! LOL I simply had my hands too full to get up to New Ulm. Hope we can get some time to get to Waverly too. I need a bird fix!
If it would dry up a bit around here I need to kick all the girls outside for some dirt eatin'. Got a 4-H meeting tomorrow night. Committee is discussing some new ideas. Hope I can stay awake for it.....

Eric
