Oh Jim I gots me 13 eggs developing in the Jersey Giants! And I just got a whole slew (45) of courtnix quail assorted colors annnnnnd more button quail eggs on the way since only the one hatched (had a major temp drop)

That's great to hear Stephanie. I ended up with 2 from my temp spike. A mutt and a Wellie cross. Thinking back, I set the eggs Sunday of Ia City. I put the wrong date on them.

I missed one in the incubator and when I candled for the NYD hatch there was a chick in the incubator. Woops. I use the styrofoam incubators as hatchers. Looks like I should use the home made incubator as a hatcher too. I built it to be both.

I got my first Ameraucana egg today. I was shocked when I found it in the nest. The other LF Langshan is laying, I think. I wish I could get the Ia Blues to lay in the nest I built for them but the insist using a nest box on the floor. Oh well. I'll just move the other one to a different pen.

Jim... I set some eggs Tues. after EIPA, just checked them... 100%! 2 still in shells with big pips but screaming away and not appearing mummified. Looked in this am with a flashlight, that woke the sleeping beauties and now I'm the mamma of course. Better get the older girls up and milk them this morning, gonna need lots of chicken milk in a couple of hours, some were already pecking around. Wonder how that tastes in coffee???

BTW only had 6 eggs.

Trish... thanks for forwarding all the info requests. Got it early last week and the rebate too! Christmas break is when I'll fill in all the data on the shows we attended and send it in.
Got a call from someone in Kansas last week looking for LF Buttercups. Couldn't help them with that one.

And on the bantam Marans. It's probably good that you're getting chicks later than sooner. They just keep getting smaller and smaller. I have some real beauties that are in the breeding pens now. Not laying yet, but the rooster is about the size of a bantam Wyandotte.

Kari, maybe a new roo will help? We could maybe switch out roosters for a while to see if that works. Or else maybe put peepers on those more aggressive hens. Smith Poultry Supply sells small and large quantities.

She's ecstatic, Craig! I gave her a LF pullet, and they seemed to get along well enough. They have been at my house until they were finished renovating their coop. There was a chicken coop next to their house, but they used it as storage until now. I just brought the chickens over last night. Kaitlyn kept jumping up and down. She's got names for all of them already.

Is there anyone in the DM area that can contact me about getting my flock NPIP certified? I have approx. 26 birds over the age of 12 weeks that need to be tested. I contacted the Iowa Poultry Association and didn't get very many of my questions answered. The gal on the phone was new and didn't know much about the program.

Your best bet is to take the class to become a certified tester. It's held yearly I think, and you'd be certified for 5 years. It's hard to find people to test your birds. A lot of people (not all) that are certified don't like to test other people's birds and get certified to test their own flocks. 3 out 5 people I know that are certified refuse to do other's birds.
