Thank you! Yes, it's pointless to candle them lol. I was able to pull a few clears before lock down. I think she sent 18, but there were a few I didn't set because they were porous/irregularly shaped. Some of them the light didn't penetrate at all, I'm REALLY hoping they hatch. Those eggs are a gorgeous color.
Sounds like you're good to go. : ) I wasn't even thinking about trying to candle Marans eggs... not happening! haha I'm excited for ya and I hope your eggs produce lots more chicks... and mostly girls!
. 14+ hours in the car with a 12, 3, and 1 year old, my husband, and some chickens does not sound completely insane at all...Right? Our little bantam covers 20 large fowl hens, it's rare for me to crack an egg that isn't fertile. They didn't all develop in the incubator though, so I think he's stretched too thin for fertility purposes. I really think it may be running him into an early grave though! I have to agree with your mom, there really is nothing like watching a bantam rooster strut his stuff. I have to remember to get a picture of him next to the Lavender Orpingtons, they are about 4x his size. Those pullets are huge, even for Orpingtons.
