That is what I agree on when I feed my animals when I experiment which food would "fit" their systems.

x100!

Try the costco brand, it's surprisingly cheap and much better than Iams! My dogs are extremely healthy and have no digestive issues. Everyone that notices my corgi mix remark on how shiny and attractive he is.

He is 7 - acts like he's still a puppy.

It really depends on the dog. Some dogs do better on a food like Iams than TOTW or Diamond. If your dog does great on the food, why change.

Sadie's (Golden Retriever) on Diamond Naturals and I don't plan on switching. She is doing just great on it. Plus, I like the fact there is no corn, soy or dyes. Its about $30 - $35 for 40lbs depending on if I get the regular chicken & rice or the extreme athlete. Iams is about $3-$5 more for 40 pounds.

I tried it on the recommendation of my trainer and I must say LOVE IT!! Do you feed a certain formula or switch it up? I switch back and forth with the lamb and chicken. And of course the boys get some Pacific TOTW mixed in every now and then. The love the TOTW, it's just sooo rich. Several people I've talked to mix it with other foods for that reason.

We fed it to our ACD for many years and he did very well on it. He started getting bored though so we tried a bunch of different foods. Beneful was the only one he really ate readily so we started him on that. And this is a dog that eats horse and chicken poop on a regular basis!

I feed my Sheltie a frozen diet. The cats can eat it too, and there isn't stuff like Meat By-Products. If corn isn't one of the first 3 ingredients, I might feed it to her for 1 or 2 nights in a pinch. But Meat By-Products? "Meat" could be anything. Not to spam or anything, but here's a link about by products: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/care/renderingplantscatsdogs.htm

Haha tell that to my cat. We spend about $45 a month on feeding her alone. Just the 1... She goes through a 8 lb bag of Wellness Core every two weeks at $22 a bag.

We feed out farm dog cheap (purina dog chow) because he runs loose with the two neighbor's dogs. They used to all eat here sometimes, across the street sometimes and next door sometimes. I think now the neighbors got wise to it and I am the only one who feeds them at all. I don't think either one of them really want their dogs. But they are friends with our boy, so I let it go. Three big dogs just eat too much to feed anything more expensive. A 40 lb bag lasts about a week and a half and that is already almost $20. All three are a bit thin even at that, but I can't feed the whole neighborhood. I could bring him inside and feed him a better food but then I would feel bad for him. He loves to be outside with his friends.

Now the inside puppy...we haven't decided what we are putting her on yet (she is coming home this weekend). I have been researching it and haven't decided. Eventually I will probably be feeding her Wellness Core because that is what the cat gets and she does so well on it. I wish I could find a local dealer for Orijen but I can't. A lot of brands have large breed puppy forumla, but I don't see too many with small breed puppy forumla. I told my husband I want to feed her raw but he is not convinced. Told him that they cat could benefit from it too, but it does seem like a lot of work.

I would have to agree with those who are saying to just feed the best you can afford and that even a lower quailty of food is better than no food. You do what you can. My Aussie lived for 14 years on Kibbles and Bits, Purina Dog Chow, and Gravy Train. This was before I had a clue that all dog foods were not equal.

I have been mixing a large bag of TOTW with a large bag of cheaper feed. (purina or alpo..)
My dogs have been fine..and it helps the food go farther..

All dog food is basically garbage. A dog should eat a proper diet for its species - as should all species correct? We don't feed chicken meal to cows....or hay to infants. Dog food companies and vets (taught by the dog food companies) have done a wonderful job of brainwashing people into believing that kibble is appropriate and healthy when in fact neither is true. Kibble was created as a convenience food utilizing scraps from the human foods industries. And what a racket. Dogs should eat raw meat and bones as the staple of their diet. Simple and cheap - especially in the long run. Kibble is mostly grain (for a carnivore??!!) and crappy grain products at that. Think about it, it is grain and meat goop heated at high enough temps to kill off anything lurking there (which also kills any nutrients that might have been there initially). Then they spray on the fats and synthetic vitamins to make it "complete and balanced". Gag. To expect any living creature to survive on this alone is cruelty IMO.
Better to feed a dog that than nothing? Perhaps. But if you really love your dogs you want to do what is best - and right.
Here are some benefits for pet owners:
clean teeth and sweet breath - no vet cleanings
absolutely no "doggy" odor
well toned and muscled body
eating is exercise = more balanced dog mentally and physically
MUCH smaller and comparably odor-free feces (looks like wolf or wild dog scat)
And of course, fewer vet bills!
Breeders have another entire list of benefits to boot.
Funny how something that makes so much sense has been overshadowed by something which makes none...clever marketing and old habits die hard I suppose.

I switch between the lamb and chicken too. I'd have to drive a ways for TOTW here (or any other premium food like Blue Buffalo, etc., for that matter) so I was super pleased to find this at a feed store here in town!

I will admit that our basset hound (who lived to be 15) would not eat any kind of premium food, at all. She liked Pedigree.

But she was another humane society dog and not knowing her history, I have no idea why she liked it so much. She always looked great, never had gas...go figure.
