Tea - black, and brewed from loose tea leaves - is a HOT drink, and best without sweetener of any kind, but possibly a bit of lemon. In restaurants in the summer I will have a glass of iced tea with lunch, as hot tea is usually too complicated for the average restaurant. Sometimes I will make sun tea with herbs from the garden, but this is not *tea*; *tea* is black tea. When I am sick hot tea with a bit of honey (and a bit of rum) is welcome. Hot tea is actually very cooling on a hot day - though not many Americans would ever agree with that sentiment. The English in India ween't completely crazy - though they did tend to use milk and sugar
. I'm glad for this thread, as it has shown me that I will need to be careful if I travel into the southern states
